October 16, 2017:

Captain Rich from Black Rose Fishing Charters finished off the commercial tuna season with a nice fatty. There are still lots of tuna around and the run and gun season should be excellent as the long as the weather holds up. The ground fishing for pollock and redfish is also red hot as well as the shark fishing. October is great month to take advantage of our phenomenal fall fishery.

Captain Rich from Black Rose Fishing Charters told me giant tuna has re-opened and the action should be red-hot in October. Run and gun stand up tuna fishing should all so be on fire through Thanksgiving. Ground fishing for pollock and red fish has been excellent.

Captain Rich from Black Rose Fishing Charters told me the storm stopped a great run of fishing. The good news was the resurgence of pollock and redfish. The bite was as good as it gets with three fish coming up on every rig. The small tuna showed up in schools a mile long. There were 20- to 60-pound fish with mixed bigger fish thrown in there. Giant tuna season is closed until October 1st. Shark fishing is hitting its peak offshore and inshore with good numbers and sizes.

Captain Rich from Black Rose Fishing Charters told me they caught their smallest tuna in a few years. The fish measured 43 inches. He also saw some that were not even legal size. Of course you never know when the rod will double over on a monster as the Black Rose crews lost a few this weeks on the big gear. He hooked one of his biggest blue sharks that was actually fouled hooked at the end of the tail that he thought it was a thresher. A few days later Captain Rich and his crew of five did land a monster thresher that ended up measuring 91 inches and weighing 464 pounds.
