July 16, 2018:
Pablo at J&J Sports Center in Patchogue reported small bass at Cupsogue and Shinnecock, and bigger bass from schoolies to 30 pounds coming from Montauk. Lots of sand eels are in all three areas. Blues are in Shinnecock Inlet and on Montauk's north side, but not hearing of any west of Shinnecock. Smith Point walk-ons have picked a few small bass on clams, while bunker chunks are producing mostly sharks.

    Pablo at J&J Sports Center in Patchogue reported some bass, mostly small, on clams and plugs east and west of Shinnecock Inlet and on the inlet jetties on bucktails. Sporadic action with small blues on both jetties, but more consistent on the west side. Matt from the shop had bass into the teens up front at Montauk during the week. Lots of sand eels at Cupsogue, Shinnecock and Montauk.

    Matt at J&J Sports Center in Patchogue reported he had lots of small bass on the backside of Moriches and also during a trip to Montauk. A Tuesday evening tide at Shinnecock produced only some small blues, with the better action off the tip of the west jetty. He did hear of a couple of quality bass taken under the light late in the week.

    Matt at J&J Sports Center in Patchogue reported he and some friends have been picking a few bass into the teens at Shinnecock on bucktails and eels. Smith Point's Outer Beach and the inlet have been compromised by plover restrictions so he rtried chunking the Cupsogue side one night and got murdered by dogfish.

    Matt at J&J Sports Center in Patchogue reported this past week saw spotty action in the surf. Moriches Inlet at Smith Point has been compromised by piping plovers, with surfcasters having to be off the beach during the prime hours of 10 p.m. through dawn. Shinnecock Inlet has seen a pick of bass into the teens on bucktails and rubber shads on night tides into dawn on the jetties, and there was talk of a good daytime bite one day during the week. Blues from 2 to 10 pounds are in both inlets between dawn and dusk. Customers reported catching fair numbers of fluke on the back of Demo and the backsides of Shinnecock Inlet.
