Belsan's Bait and Tackle reports that there still isn't any fishable ice locally, and even a lot of the ice to the west has been lost. This doesn't mean you can't fish, though, as those same lakes ice anglers would normally be hitting are mostly free of ice and the fish are just as likely to take a cast lure or bait as they would have been to do so under a sheet of ice!
Jake from Belsan's Bait and Tackle told me the store has a great selection of live bait, tip ups, augers and terminal gear. There isn't any good ice around currently but hopefully February will bring some additional cold weather and favorable ice conditions. There is plenty of local open-water trout fishing and it has been very good.
Open water fishing for trout is one of the few local options according to Belsan's Bait and Tackle as they have yet to see a deep-freeze to last more than a few days to help build fishable ice. Long Pond has been one spot that keeps getting mentioned by shop patrons and is worth a shot right now. There is some action out west so be sure to hit up the shop if you plan to travel a bit to find your ice.
Pete at Belsan's Bait and Tackle was busy shoveling snow when I called this week, and he said they're still stuck in between open water and fishable ice and the blanket of snow will be slowing down the ice formation a bit more. There is ice if you're willing to travel to the western part of the state, but nothing much locally.
