Belsan Bait & Tackle

July 17, 2017:
Conner from Belsan's Bait reports that massive schools of pogies have moved into the area making fishing very interesting. Striper fishing remains excellent and bluefish can now be found on the outside ledges. Mackerel fishing has definitely improved, flounder are being caught in the harbor and a few fluke are being landed at the mouth of the North River. Tuna fishermen have been coming in with giants from the offshore grounds.

Conner from Belsan's Bait and Tackle said that mackerel fishing has been great lately. The North River has been steady for school-size stripers with larger fish being caught at the mouth of the river. Anglers have also been finding bigger fishing coming off the ledges near Minot's, Hull and Green Harbor. Flounder fishing is still pretty good in the harbor and there have also been a few reports of fluke at the mouth the North River.

Conner from Belsan's Bait and Tackle that mackerel fishing improved this week. Anglers are still having the best results early in the morning. Mackerel still seem to respond best to fresh bait, with harbor pollock making the next best option. Flounder fishing is still fair to good. Most fishermen are able to catch at least half a limit per person. Striper fishing is still the mainstay with bigger fish being landed each week. The North River, around the mouth especially, has been productive with the bigger fishing coming off the ledges near Minot's, Hull and Green Harbor.

Jake from Belsan's Bait and Tackle told me that there have definitely been some bigger striped bass landings this week. They are being caught in the North River and along the shoreline in the boulders and offshore ledges. Flounder fishing remains decent in the harbor, but is slowly on the decline. Haddock fishing is very good offshore and the inshore mackerel has been spotty but best at first light.
