Pete at Belsan's Bait and Tackle was busy shoveling snow when I called this week, and he said they're still stuck in between open water and fishable ice and the blanket of snow will be slowing down the ice formation a bit more. There is ice if you're willing to travel to the western part of the state, but nothing much locally.
Pete from Belsan's Bait and Tackle reported that the bass and trout on the local ponds in Plymouth have been very good. All the ice fishermen are waiting for the some cold weather and safe ice. The store has a great selection of live bait, tip ups, augers and terminal tackle. January gear and will remain open seven days a week Monday through Saturday from 7 to 5 and Sunday 7 to 3.
The weather headed in the right direction late in the week to make some fishable ice, but by Sunday it was back to square one according to Belsan's Bait and Tackle. They are stocked up and ready for the inevitable ice fishing season, however, with all the gear and bait you could possibly need. In the mean time if you can find some open water the trout fishing has been good in the Plymouth area.
There is some good trout fishing to be had in the Plymouth area reports Belsan's Bait and Tackle but a lot of spots are seeing just enough skim ice to make fishing difficult—if not impossible—yet the ice is nowhere near thick enough yet to support an angler. That should come in due time as the short-term forecast looks good for making ice.
