The guys over at Snug Harbor Marina in Wakefield said, "This is the last report!? Things are just starting to get good down here!" The gannets showed up this week and there was lots of action out off of Charlestown Beach. Most of the fish stayed out off the beach because of the big surf, but some areas to the west had blitzes of herring-crazed stripers into the teens. Some of the night guys have been sticking some better fish into the low 20-pound fish on plugs from a few of the shallower local beaches. There were even a few albies taken from some popup blitzes between the Coast Guard House and the Pier on Thursday! This is a great time of year to fish the southern Rhode Island surf, don't give up yet!

Snug Harbor Marina in Wakefield had also seen albies crashing bait in local waters. They said the best concentration of action has been down around Watch Hill but there were fish off Matunuck as well. Striper action has been largely comprised of schoolies, but there are keepers being taken from the beach and even a few in the 35- to 40-inch range. Tog action has also been picking up this week. I caught up with Dennis Zambrotta on Sunday, he was just returning from a week at Block Island. He said the fishing out there was tough. The action was mostly schoolies up to 10 pounds with a lone 18-pounder mixed-in there somewhere. The action was best during the day and they were favoring south side. Bucktails were the ticket. Night fishing was very slow. There are still some albies around out there as well. Guys fishing Newport have been reporting the same things, still albies around and lots of small bass. If some bigger bait shows up, we might get one more shot at some quality fish, we'll see.

Snug Harbor Marina in Wakefield told me that there are still albies coming from the beaches. There are also lots of small bass at places like Deep Hole and Monahan's Dock. Tog are still in tight enough to be targeted from shore as well. The water is very warm for November so there's no reason to hang up the rods just yet.
