At Harry's Outdoors, they were hearing the reports of the hot snag-and-drop striped bass fishing that's been taking place up and down the area from the Shrewsbury Rocks all the way to Seaside. The bass are everything from 30 inches to 40-pounders or better. Sea bass fishing has been good with lots of limits, and blackfish season expands on Thursday to a six-fish bag.

    At Harry's Outdoors, Jeff said Raritan Bay started giving up big striped bass. There are stripers being caught along the beach as well, he said. Bait and Mag darters have been the favored choices for the surf fishing, with low tide doing well. Blackfishing has been very good up at the Shrewsbury Rocks, and there are giant bluefish being picked up near the Shark River Reef, he said.

    At Harry's Outdoors, they said there are some striped bass around but the action still isn't consistent. Sea bass have been keeping anglers busy, especially for those going out on the party boats. Blackfish have been biting as well on those trips. Some anglers are still going to the canyon and picking up some tuna, but there are some tuna inshore as well. Bluefish and false albacore are providing some entertainment while folks wait for the stripers to get their act together.

  • October 23, 2017 Open or Close

    At Harry's Outdoors, they're hearing reports that the striper fishing is starting to pick up, with livelining and trolling picking up some fish. It's nothing consistent, a few here, a few there, but folks are catching fish. There are big bluefish outside Barnegat Inlet as well. Blackfishing has been good even with the one-fish limit, with reports coming from the Shrewsbury Rocks of decent fish. Sea bass fishing reports were just starting to trickle in so they didn't have much on that front. Tuna anglers are getting some yellowfin and some bluefin, enough to keep folks going out to the canyon.

    At Harry's Outdoors, the guys said the fishing seems to still be recovering from the the effects of Hurricane Jose, but said "It seems like it did blow some fish into the area. There are some reports of short striped bass being picked up on bait by anglers who are putting some time in, and plugs are beginning to catch some as well. The false albacore reports were trickling in. "I'm looking forward to the fall, too, with all this bait that's been around."
