Tartan II

June 17, 2019:
Capt. Mike of the Tartan II said they had some great striper trips this week and was excited to see that some bigger fish were moving in. This has made the trips really exciting with a good mix of sizes and really fast action. Fluking also improved this week. Sea bass and porgy result have been stellar with solid keeper sea bass and some giant porgies mixing together. The only negative this week was some heavy winds that forced us to cut our Saturday night bass trip short. Other than that it's shaping up to be a really great season!

Capt. Mike of the Tartan II said the porgy fishing was less consistent than it was last week, but a good shot of sizeable butterfish moved into local waters and they have been taking Sabiki rigs and—in some cases—clams! These fish are great eating and—of course—also make great bait. Sea bass are mixing-in but when they make a focused attempt at targeting sea bass the bite really lights up. And their evening striper trips have been red hot with fast action on fish from 20 inches to 20 pounds. Capt. Mike does it all, if you want to get out there with a guy that really knows his craft, give a call.

Capt. Mike of the Tartan II said the bass fishing really turned on this week with fast action and a good mix of schoolies and keepers. The bass bite is good enough now that he's decided to start his Friday and Saturday night bass trips—these are open boat runs that leave the dock at 4 p.m. There are some blues mixing-in now as well. Fluking has also been picking up, shorts always outnumber keepers, but the action is good and keepers are hitting the ice every day. He said they've also been seeing good action on porgies and sea bass this week. It's June, one of the best months to be on the water, period.

Capt. Mike of the Tartan II said he was two trips deep into his season and was very pleased with the results. Fluke action has been pretty good to start off and the striper action has been red hot; most of the fish are under 28 inches, but they'll get bigger and the action is fast and furious. When they stop for porgies the bite has been great, this is an awesome time of year to fish in New England.

Capt. Mike of the Tartan II said he will be running his first trip of the season on Friday, and will be running regular trips after that. For now they will be fishing for fluke and sea bass with some stripers on the agenda as well. Early indicators suggest that the fishing should be very good, give a call for more details.
