Johnny over at Bobby J's said, "We had some lousy weather this past week, but fishing is still going strong. The porgy bite is stellar along with sea bass trickling behind and some better fish being caught this week. Bluefish are definitely making their presence known with 10-plus pound fish finally in the mix, most coming from deeper water. Striper action remains better after dark with high-teen and low 20s fish. There are lots of schoolies to be had during the day with the makings in place for an awesome fall run. Some anglers are reporting fluke from the local area sandbars. Snappers are still around in good numbers for those wanting to bend a rod, some tailor blues can also be found chasing bait. Yesterday's turnout for the Milford Sport Fisherman's annual snapper derby was a great success with Jack Friedman taking first place, Morgan Demarest 2nd, and Charlotte Yakauonis 3rd. Thanks to all who participated for another successful year with many more to come. Also lots of new stock plenty of bait and good camaraderie down at Bobby J's Bait &Tackle: stop down, chit-chat and see what's going on in the fishing world. The Crew at Bobby J's wishes everyone tight lines and hold on for October which will be our golden month; blackfish, blues, stripers and albies, should all be robust in the very near future all at once so Hang On!"

Johnny over at Bobby J's emailed his report over on Sunday morning, "Besides our previous reports which have been more or less the same, week after week, there is something new to talk about: confirmed reports of Albie's being caught in the area of New London. That area in the past definitely produces the better opportunity to hook into these speedy zipsters. The usual has been going on for shore and boat fishing, porgies, snappers, tailor blues, and schoolie stripers have inundated the area chasing around the small baitfish which is here in abundance. Fluke fishing is still the ghost of Christmas's past. Maybe with these decreasing temps the last few weeks of the season will pick up, maybe. Sea bass is still so-so, still mostly throwbacks with the occasional keeper. The Milford Sport Fishermen Association along with the City of Milford is sponsoring a snapper derby Saturday morning September 15 rain or shine, so gather the kids, grandkids or someone else's kids and take 'em out fishing for a little fun with many giveaways, food and just a great time for all!! Johnny over at Bobby J's said the fishing got better again this week. The porgy bite continues to impress all who dunk bait near structure. Sandworms are the bait of choice, but squid and clams have been working great also. Sea bass action is picking back up now, deep water structure has been the key to hooking up. Fluking has been very slow, and that's really all we need to say about that. Striper action remains steady—closer to shore it's been mostly schoolies and small keepers, out deep there are still fish into the 30-pound class to be had on chunks and eels. Blues are around, but mostly small; snappers in the rivers and harbor blues to about 4 pounds outside.

From Johnny at Bobby J's we get this week's report via email. "Fishing around here has been pretty consistent with what is around to chomp on. Porgies are still going very strong with sandworms being the bait of choice. I'm surprised to see that many around and still plentiful with the amount of people fishing for them and keeling the LEGAL-sized ones. The bluefish are slowly increasing in volume with still many tailors and a lot of snapper blues making up the majority of the catches. Fluke is still very slow with mostly shorts, most likely until the water temps start to dip a bit. There is still plenty of small bait around which makes the food source plentiful, but dealing with the warmer water will make it tough. Sea bass fishing has been pretty consistent with the catches being just over keeper size with lots of throw-backs but overall ok. Stripers are still around, but not as thick as they were in the recent past but still catches to be had. With the adult bunker peanut bunker, shiners and other bait around in good numbers all were really waiting for is the gator blues to show up in better numbers. To anyone who is interested the WICC bluefish tournament is this coming up weekend August 25-26, and even though the reports haven't been the absolute best you just never know what those days of fishing will hold, take a chance for $36 to enter tournament with Bobby J's Bait & Tackle being an official sign up station. Just an FYI: one of last year's top prize-winning bluefish was caught from the CT shore! Like I said you just never know. Tight lines and fish on!"
