Over at Bobby J's Johnny said, "This past week been a little on the slow side but things should heat up with most species any day now. Fluke and porgies are hot on the menu now with good fluke being caught and many porgies around. I have heard there are a few black sea bass around in deeper waters but they have been a little bit elusive. The striper bite in the river definitely seems to be slowing down but then seems to pick back up with every rain storm we get so guess we'll see what happens with the next rain. We also heard that the bass have been out toward Middle Ground in the typical deeper spots where they were last year, it might not be a bad idea to get out there and see what it's all about. From the guys down at Bobby J's, tight lines and Fish On!!"

Over at Bobby J's Johnny said, "Over the past week we have seen a lot of action from a lot of species. The porgy bite started off very consistent, just how it ended last season; plenty of keepers around the 2-pound mark waiting to be caught from shore and boat. Fluke has also been decent with some nice keepers in the mix along with the typical throwbacks. Can 12 all the way to the New Haven breakwalls and the Stratford area will yield best results. Weakfish still has not seemed to hit its peak, but over this past full moon, the late incoming tides produced some nice keepers. It looks like the favorable air and water temps have target species moving in at a better rate this week. Plenty of fresh migrating bass and an abundance of inshore bait really threw the Housy into high gear last week. Strong moon tides, lots of runoff and tons of bait made it an exciting time to be on the river. The bite was red hot for fish from 15 to 30 pounds. We also saw an influx of the 'not-so-rare' species known as 'cell phone fishermen'. These beautiful species only emerge after their mates call them to tell them that the bite is—in fact, many would never emerge if they didn't hear the mating call of their ringtone. With that said, there was still plenty of room to fish if you were willing to hike a bit and the bite was ON. But if you go out before the calls are made you can get in on the fishing before the squeeze comes on. From the guys down at Bobby J's – bend a rod and FISH ON!"

Over at Bobby J's Johnny said, "The 51st Milford Striped Bass Club annual trout derby took place Saturday morning and was a great success for all the youngsters and parents that showed up. The ponds were stocked up Friday prior and there were plenty of fish to be caught by all. Results will follow up next week. April 30 was the last day for blackfish and the few who got out that week were rewarded with nice fish. Bruce Bernier took top spot on the board with an 11.23-pound beauty which was released after weigh-in. Also Ryan Antonino also weighed-in an impressive tog at 10.41—which was also released safely after weigh-in to be caught another day. As the blackfish season ends it also starts the kickoff to summer flounder season (fluke), on May 4. Any indication of previous years the bite is usually hot at the beginning weeks of the season. So if you don't have your boat in the water get moving. Weakfish have been showing up in small numbers at area beaches and will only get better with time. Many traveling striped bass are also being caught at local beaches and bays mostly small, but you never know. The river has been consistent as well with all the fresh rain that we have had to swell the rivers where herring and other bait are being chased, this will probably be your best opportunity month to get into some good fish with swimmers and topwater in the rivers until the bunker start showing up and all hell breaks loose. Remember the chunk bite heated up last year this time last year at the 40-foot line. With all the possibilities out there now leaves the door open to try out new things. From the crew down at Bobby J's, 'FISH ON!!'"

Over at Bobby J's Johnny said, "I'd like to start off the report by wishing everyone a Happy Easter. With opening day a week behind us, many ventured out for the kickoff and the days to follow to cash in while the bite stayed hot. There were many locations that were stocked to offer a good shot at enjoyment and those who had time during the week benefitted by avoiding the opening day rush crowd. There will be a few more stockings at various locations so make sure you check the DEEP and or The Fisherman websites so you can experience deja vu all over again. Look for fallen trees and other obstructions that make for good ambush points where trout like to hold or in ponds get down the timing of moving fish as they are still in holding tank mode and make their laps around looking for something to feed on. From drifting mealworms to using your favorite spinner or Phoebe should generate action for all, patience and persistence is key. Coming up a few weeks away will be the 51st annual Children's Trout Derby sponsored by The Milford Striped Bass Club and many other generous donors. May 4th is the save the date taking place at the upper and lower Milford Duck Pond from 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Many prizes for biggest catches and different age groups. No sign up needed, but you must be 15 years of age or younger. The local striper bite has been heating up as expected with anything from swimmers to soft plastics being taken and many new fish showing up in area rivers who are scrounging around chasing bait looking to fatten up. Just around the corner when waters become just a hair warmer the weakfish bite will be upon us, don't miss out. That time will also bring rat blues, fresh stripers and hopefully bunker will be plentiful at that time as well. Well I think I've written enough, so get involved and get the hook. From the crew down at Bobby J's, tight lines and Fish On!!!!"
