Over at Bobby J's Johnny said, "With the long Labor Day weekend upon us, fishing has remained consistent over the past couple weeks for the different options out there. Bluefish, from snappers to high-single-digit blues have been in the area slamming gear. Bottom fishing along with topwater will produce results with schoolie and small keeper bass as well. Porgy action remains good heading into the latter part of the season while black sea bass has been okay, but not stellar. There is lots of small bait around waiting for the shift of competing bonito and false albacore from the eastern Sound to make it our way; New London and points east seem to have good numbers as of now. Hope everyone a great, and safe, holiday weekend. Also say a prayer for those in Hurricane Dorian's track and hope for the best as far as the fishing goes. From the guys down at Bobby J's tight lines and fish on!"

  • August 12, 2019 Open or Close

With a calmer cooler back half of summer fishing has remained very good respectively according to the crew at Bobby J's. Bigger blues out in a little deeper water and snappers in close will help anglers in many ways, especially with the upcoming WICC Bluefish tournament. They said folks looking for quick action might want to hop on the snapper bite; of course, fluke should also pick up with the influx of the snapper blues. Porgy fishing remains good at typical spots with a solid bite, while sea bass (as elusive as they are in these parts) are still in the mix with some keepers around. Word is the striper bite calmed down a bit but they are also mixed around mainly early morning on bait schools or around river openings; but when one door starts to close another opens and albie season is right around the corner with some reports to be investigated.

  • August 5, 2019 Open or Close

Over at Bobby J's Johnny said, "The start of August has been favorable with great weather and all-around good fishing. Porgy action has been steady for summer from shore and boat with a relaxing easy day of fishing without breaking the bank. Sea bass and fluke have picked up nicely with some keepers in the vicinity of Charles Island, can 12 and New Haven. Smaller blues are in the area but we're still waiting on the bigger ones and the snappers as well. Striper action has slowed a bit; one bright spot has been the mouth of the Housy. There's enough bait around now though that the bass bite could blow up anywhere at any time. Hope you are all enjoying your summer and best of luck to you all. From the crew down at Bobby J's tight lines and Fish on!"

  • July 22, 2019 Open or Close

Over at Bobby J's Johnny said, "With only a few days left of the extreme heat, temporary relief is welcome and we can all resume our normal fishing schedule. Porgy fishing remains very good and makes for a good beach fishing experience for families to enjoy. Fluke fishing is doing unexpectedly well now after a rocky start but results have been good. Lots of small blues around scrap feeding on the loads of bait around and also bigger ones in a little deeper water offshore terrorizing bunker. The striper bite is still very good with chunk guys pulling some very good-sized fish in numbers, others trolling umbrella rigs have also been lucky. The mouth of the Housy has been a hotspot if you want to troll or throw topwater for some good possibilities. That's all for now, be safe in the heat and from the crew at Bobby J's tight lines and Fish On!!"
