Fisherman's Den North

July 16, 2018:
"Fishing in Raritan Bay and surrounding waters stayed pretty much status quo this past week," said Tom Palmisano at Fisherman's Den North. Tom said his rental boats are seeing plenty of fluke but the catch is heavy with short fish. Some snappers have started to give light tackle fishermen some action. In the ocean sea bass, ling and some excellent numbers of triggerfish are augmenting the spotty fluke fishing, he said.

"Even with the hot weather and rains this past week fluke fishing held up," said Tom Palmisano at Fisherman's Den North. Tom told me rental boats are seeing steady action with short fluke, but returning to the dock with nice keepers and limits. Anglers fishing by the light of the moon are still into some nice stripers on the chunk and troll. Porgy fishing is very good along the north side of the bay and some snappers are starting to provide some good light tackle action. Crabbing is also on the upswing along the lower side of the bay, as well.

Good fluke fishing and porgy fishing is on the upswing, was the way Tom Palmisano at Fisherman's Den North described this past week fishing. Tom said rental boats were really seeing plenty of fluke just about anywhere they fished. Likewise porgy fishing is starting to produce some good numbers of nice size scup. In addition he predicted that the warm weather we are having will give both bay and ocean water temps a boost and this should really get the summer fishing going.

Rental boat catches of fluke really took off this past week according to Tom Palmisano at Fisherman's Den North. Tom told me fluke to 6 pounds were caught only a short hop from the store and catches were solid through out the bay. Some snappers have also started to show up and while ocean bluefishing is still sporadic better numbers of bigger fish were caught this past week. Tom said the store is offering a shark fishing special bait and chum package, so if you are going to try and get in on the good shark fishing that is taking place along the northern coast stop on by.

Rental boat fishermen enjoyed some good fluke fishing once the early week winds calmed down, stated Top Palmisano at Fisherman's Den North. Tom said catches were good only a short hop from the dock with fish to 6-12 pounds being caught. Striped bass fishing was hit or miss but some anglers still managed some nice size keepers. Bottom fishermen got into some nice catches of sea bass and ling. "The only down side was the disappearance of the bluefish," Tom said.
