Fisherman's Den North

November 13, 2017:
There was no shortage of bass this past week according to Tom Palmisano from the Fisherman's Den North. Tom said some of the best fishing was off the Tip of the Hook, Nude Beach and Deal. As to the better methods, a good many boats caught their bass trolling mojos, spoons and shads; other boats concentrate their fishing on the working birds and took bass on poppers and jigs, while late in the week most boats had turned to snagging and dropping bunker around the huge schools of bunker that had moved into the inshore water. Tom said while there is still some good bottom fishing around the heavy duty bass fishing was the main attraction. However, with the bag limit going up on blackfish this week, there is sure to be anglers opting for the whitechins.

"We are seeing some of the best fishing of the year," stated Tom Palmisano at Fisherman's Den North. Tom told me he weighed in bass to 44 pounds with past week with most of the bigger fish being caught on the troll. Fishing heated up about mid-week as the effects of the weekend weather settled down. In addition to the big bass, monster blues in the 15- to 20-pound plus class are providing non-stop fishing for boats fishing for them along the inshore waters. "Bottom fishing is doing equally well with sea bass, porgies and tog keeping rods bent for sinker bounders," he said.

Tom told me party boats were full, charter boats sailed and plenty of private boats were fishing, all because the sea bass season opened. How if only the striped bass would become more consistent, he said. In addition of the excellent sea bass fishing there are still plenty of porgies and tog around for sinker bouncers.
