Lewes Harbour Marina

January 22, 2018:
At Lewes Harbour Marina Tommy told us no one has been fishing since the ice in the canal broke up. One casualty of the Big Freeze was the charter boat Indian, a part of the Angler's Fleet. There was a blowout low tide that left the boat sitting in the mud. Before the tide came back in the boat had settled in the mud and then we had the big storm that filled her stern with snow. The rising water flooded her and the insurance company has written the Indian off as a total loss.

At Lewes Harbour Marina Julie had good reports on striped bass and tog in the final weeks of December. She said the rock are along the coast between Indian River Inlet and Fenwick Island, though boats out of Lewes have made the run as far north as Sea Isle City, New Jersey. Trolling with white MOJOs and purple Stretches has been the top technique. Tog fishing has also been good. The Katydid and the Grizzly have been landing limits with fish to 16 pounds. As always, the weather determines when the boats can sail. The standings in the Lewes Harbour Marina Striper Tournament are First Place, Bob Fitzwater, 43.5 pounds, Second Place, Joe Choma, 35.5 pounds and in Third Place, Dave Lynam with a 33-pound striped bass. Some other outstanding catches include Bob Murphy with a 16.5-pound tog on the Grizzly, Matt Jester with two big rock weighing 34.5 and 33.5 pounds taken on mojos and Stretches off of Bethany Beach and Otto Evans with two keeper rock at 35 and 36.5 inches along with several slot fish also off Bethany on mojos.
