Big Game Sportfishing

November 20, 2017:
Captain Brian Bacon of Big Game Sportfishing said that unfortunately the weather made them cancel their trips this past week, but based on reports that he had heard the tautog fishing was still very good. They plan to continue fishing for tautog and then cod during December and January and still have some open dates on the calendar.

Previous Reports

Captain Brian Bacon of Big Game Sportfishing reported that the tautog fishing is heating up and the black sea bass and cod fishing remains very good. The crew that they fished with on Saturday had some nice tautog up to 10.5 pounds along with a full boat limit of black sea bass.

Captain Brian Bacon of Big Game Sportfishing said that the tautog bite is just starting to heat up in Rhode Island waters. They fished on the 14th and had a boat limit of tautog under the 3-fish limit. On the 15th the limit increased to 6 per person and black sea bass just reopened on Sunday with a 7 fish per person limit. Looking ahead they will be running trips for tautog, sea bass and cod depending on the fishing and conditions. With water temperatures still in the mid-60s this should be a great fall of fishing if the weather cooperates.

Captain Brian Bacon of Big Game Sportfishing said that striped bass fishing was very good early in the week out around Block Island. They found bass to around 35 pounds and some big bluefish. The bass bite had slowed down by the weekend, though, and on Saturday they were marking very few fish. Tautog fishing has been off to a good start with boat limits of smaller keepers on recent trips.

  • October 9, 2017 Open or Close

Captain Brian Bacon of Big Game Sportfishing reported some excellent fishing this past week on a variety of species. An early-week run to Block found plenty of hungry bass feeding on live eels. A quick cod run was well wort the effort producing a solid catch of market-size fish in the boat. Then fishing off the beaches late in the week, he got into a load of false albacore making for some awesome action on light tackle.
