"It's a wrap for the 2017 season," said Larry Thompson at the Trade Winds Marina. Larry told me they are doing some dredging close to the marina and he is hoping to get in on some winter flounder fishing shortly. It's too bad so many boats pulled out of the water as there has been a good amount of stripers being caught by the few boats that are still fishing.

Over at Trade Winds Marina we were told it was a light week of fishing because of the weather and poor conditions. Boats that did sail saw some good striper fishing, however, blackfishing was tough because of the poor seas and strong tides, we were told. Bass fishing was the name of the game with the folks at Dockside Bait and Tackle. The best fishing has been from the Hook to Monmouth Beach where schools of bunker are all over the pace and boat fishermen have been snagging the bunker and livelining them for bass to 45 pounds. Anglers fishing off the beaches are also picking up bass, some as big as 30-pounds plus on shads, plugs and live bunker. Some boats are also fishing New York Harbor with eels and also connecting with good size bass.

It was big time bass fishing early in the week according to Larry Thompson at Trade Winds Marina. Larry said boats sailing from the marina enjoyed good trolling on mojos and spoons, as well as some surface feeding fish on jigs and poppers. Brian Siyouf and his crew slammed the big bass with several bass in the upper 40s for the top catch at the marina. A lot of anglers who fish out of the marina are looking forward to the increase in the tog bag this week, Larry added.

A lot of boats sailing out of the Trade Winds Marina took advantage of the exploding striped bass fishing as well as the good bottom fishing this past week. Larry Thompson told me most of the better bass action started on Wednesday and continued right through the weekend despite some poor conditions. Bottom fishing did not start picking up until Thursday because of the left over heave from the Sunday storm. Better sized sea bass and tog are starting to dominate the sinker bouncing as porgy catches are on the decline according to Larry.
