Trade Winds Marina

October 15, 2018:
Only a few boats sailed out of the Trade Winds Marina this past week. Larry Thompson told me the only news to come into the marina was of plenty of porgies and sea bass being caught. Most anglers told Larry that, when it comes to the sea bass, they had to pick through the short fish to put together a catch of keepers.

A call to the Trade Winds Marina got us several reports. Larry Thompson said one of the boats sailed to the east edge of the Mud Hole in search of mahi, but came up empty. Larry Small and his crew hit the Shrewsbury Rocks for a limit of tog and plenty of porgies, while Dennis Hall and his group got into the albies. "On the whole the striper fishing slowed down for boats fishing out of the marina and it looks like the fishery is setting up to break open around the full moon later this month," Larry said.

At the Trade Winds Marina Larry Thompson told me this past week was saw plenty of fishing washed out until late in the week. A few boats made the trek to the rock piles in the bay on Friday and got into very good catches of porgies and triggerfish. "Saturday saw some good albacore fishing at the Shrewsbury Rocks, and mixed size stripers and bluefish seem to be just about everywhere in the bay," Larry said.

Early week rains and poor sea conditions kept fishing in check until the end of the week according to Larry Thompson of Trade Winds Marina. Larry the told me the only reports he got were of plenty of small blues and some bass being caught in the Keansburg area. A few boats have been trolling in the evening and picking up a mix of shorts and a few keepers. Some have also been worming and eeling bigger bass, he said.

Needless to say no boats fished out of the Trade Winds Marina until the weekend. Larry Thompson told me the creek next to the marina continues to be full of peanut bunker and some of the boats have been catching small blues with some stripers mixed in from it. Some fluke are also being caught at the mouth of the creek, but most are sub-legals, he said.
