South Jersey Marina

November 13, 2017:
South Jersey Marina reported that a few bass are making their way to the scales, but most anglers are making their way north to intercept the action. The local anglers who are on the blackfish are still doing well and hopefully this week's increase in the limits will bring anglers out in full force once again. Bluefishing has slowed and all other smalls have left town, with a few anglers waiting on warmer weather and calm winds to get back out wreck fishing and find some sea bass.

Previous Reports

  • November 6, 2017 Open or Close

The folks at South Jersey Marina reported that anglers are mixing it up between sea bass fishing out front and blackfishing inshore which has still offered good days and keeper togs. The bluefish in the inlets and out back has been good again this past week, with small bass hanging around as anglers await some bigger fish. Reports of keeper bass are surfacing in Ocean City and north, with cool nights bringing the water temps down, but very slowly at that. Some anglers are still heading out front and finding some mahi, with the rest headed to those far-off wrecks to grab some humpbacks.

  • October 30, 2017 Open or Close

South Jersey Marina reported that those fishing out front have caught keeper sea bass and there is a mess of shorter fish to sift as anglers scratch out limits of humps. Deeper water has been key to successful days and 100 feet or over gives you a better shot. The tog fishing is so-so out front, with blackfish seemingly still hanging around inshore. The white chins are also laden with shorter fish and sifting is a must. Bluefish around the area are thick and chasing bait, and short bass are in the mix as anglers await the keeper liners that are being reported to the north.

  • October 23, 2017 Open or Close

South Jersey Marina reported that the sea bass fishing out at Cape May and Wildwood reefs was on everyone's minds as boats left the dock on Sunday. Matt also told of anglers whacking away at blackfish on the inshore snags and some small resident bass both out back and on the sands. Kingfish and weakies have had lockjaw this past week as waters cool down a degree or two, and lots of bluefish can be had, though they are on the small side.

  • October 16, 2017 Open or Close

South Jersey Marina reported that Cape May anglers are limited until Sunday and have had some blues, a few weakfish and some small croakers and such to mess around with; the majority again are up on the local structure, and blackfishing is doing well, with a stray kingfish or trigger still rearing its head now and again. The reefs out front are holding some decent sea bass and anglers will certainly be out in force on Sunday's opener, weather permitting.
