Bullet Hole Annex

November 20, 2017:
Nick at Bullet Hole Annex continues to hear excellent reports on the striped bass fishing in Raritan Bay and down the beaches. Snag and Drop fishing has been the ticket to the bass outside while trolling mojos, spoons and shad has been the method of choice inside the bay. Blackfish catches have been spotty since the bag limit went up due to windy conditions and rough seas.

Striped bass fishing was red hot during the early part of the week, cited Nick over at Bullet Hole Annex. Boats trolling mojos, spoons and shads, and livelining bunker hooked up with bass in the 20- to 40-pound plus range in Raritan Bay and outside down from Sandy Hook. The early week winds and rough seas kept sinker bouncers off the ocean, however, late week trips scored good catches of sea bass, tog and porgies, Nick said.

Nick at Bullet Hole Annex told us of big time striped bass action in Raritan Bay starting Wednesday as the waters settled down from the blow. Most of the fish are being caught on the troll, however some fish are pushing baitfish to the surface and this is producing some topwater and jigging action, he said. In addition he told me most bottom fishing boats did not resume fishing until Thursday because of the heave left over from the storm.

Manny over at Bullet Hole Annex told me reports coming from Raritan Bay are telling of some bigger bass starting to spread out in the bay with the best fishing being on Romer, the West Bank and Perth Amboy areas. Big blues and false albies are supplying some good action outside and bottom fishing is good with plenty to sea bass, tog and porgies coming over the rails.

Bass, blues and bottom fishing was the word from Nick over at Bullet Hole Annex. Early week striper fishing was good in New York Harbor and some good catches of mixed size stripers are being seen in the lower Hackensack River on jig-swimbait combinations and Storm Shads. Blues and albies are moving around Raritan Bay and along the inshore waters. On the bottom fishing front porgies and tog have been the main stay but sea bass took over the bulk of the attention when it reopened on Sunday, he said.
