FishTales Bait & Tackle

August 13, 2018:
Early week fishing was on the slow side but fishing got better as the week progressed, cited Tim Riley over at Fishtales Bait and Tackle. Tim said the store got several good reports on the fishing in the Sandy Hook Channel. Jack Seaman hit the channel for a limit of flatties to 26 inches, while Scott Kaelin topped a limit catch of fluke with an 8-plus pound fish. Earlier in the week Frank Hartman fished the Rattlesnake for a pick of fluke and sea bass dominated by short fish, and Steve Novak scored shorts and a few keeper fluke.

A windy, choppy bay most of the week, and Saturday's hosing really cut into the number of people fishing this past week, said Tim Riley at Fishtales Bait and Tackle. Tim told me for the second straight week he had no weigh-ins and just when a few anglers started fishing over the weekend, the weather went on the attack again. "Hopefully things will clear up this coming week," he added.

We have zero reports because we had zero people come into the shop all week, said Tim Riley at Fishtales Bait and Tackle. Tim told me the weather made this the poorest week of fishing all summer and it wasn't until Saturday that he started to see a few fishermen stir. The first word the shop got on Saturday was news of very good porgy fishing just about everywhere. On the down side fluke fishing was slow, Tim said.

Once again a wet weekend put a damper on the weekend fishing, said Tim Riley at Fishtales Bait and Tackle. Tim said Randy Neuman decked a good catch of keepers while fishing off Keansburg. Don Lewis fished the back bay and hit a good bite of keeper fluke on a mid week trip. Brian Dusack maxed out with fluke to 4 pounds and along with a nice catch of crabs. "Fishing was at a standstill over the weekend because of the weather," Tim added.

Fluke fishermen stopping in at Fishtales Bait and Tackle told Tim of a good week of fishing in the back bay. Scott K maxed out while fishing around the 20 Can, and Bruce Dusack and Jason Boyce also enjoyed good fishing in the same area. Dan Cadigon, along with Darrell and Kim Pall limited out with fluke to 7 pounds. Cliff Connors decked flatties to 4 pounds and Randy Neumann fishing on his Papa Bear boated fluke to 5 pounds.
