Ramsey Outdoor

August 10, 2020:
While Ramsey Outdoors didn't have the power problems other stores did, just getting to the store was an exercise in patience and fortitude as detours from storm damage abounded in the northern portion of the state. Sources at Ramsey said the only reports they had were of hybrid action in Spruce Run and at night in Lake Hopatcong. In addition they mentioned that some of the bigger reservoirs like Round Valley and Merrill Creek Reservoir were clean and producing some trout and smallies.

Another place that gave us word of decent smallmouth fishing in the South Branch, Passaic and other streams was Ramsey Outdoors. Sources there told us light tackle fishermen are scoring well on topwater baits and swimbaits, and fly fishermen are also scoring well on hair bugs and streamers. In addition we were told local small ponds and lakes are seeing a decent topwater morning bass bite and plenty to panfish.

At Ramsey Outdoors we got word of some good light tackle smallmouth fishing in several streams. The Passaic continues to see decent fishing on swimbaits and topwater baits: Some of the deeper holes in the Rockaway are also producing some smallies, as is the Ramapo River and the Pompton River. The store also got reports of decent largemouth and smallmouth action in Lake Hopatcong early and late in the day when boat traffic is lightest.

At Ramsey Outdoors we were told of low water conditions despite last week's rains. The low waters in the Passaic are serving up some decent smallmouth, largemouth and pike fishing and most local lakes and ponds are seeing a good a.m. and p.m. topwater bass bite. The store also got good reports on the bass fishing in Lake Hopatcong.

A call to the folks at Ramsey Outdoors echoed the reports of good smallmouth fishing in the upper Delaware. In addition we were told of a decent topwater morning bite in most local lakes and ponds. Some of the smaller ponds are seeing algae blooms because of water temps in the 80s and Canisteer Reservoir is also seeing green water.
