John at The Dock Outfitters said the crabbing is simply outstanding right now and the bay is simply loaded. The surf action is definitely in summer mode now. Fluke remains the most abundant fish available to the surfcaster with the occasional short bass and small bluefish now and then. The night tides have been producing some outstanding shark fishing if you happen to find yourself in the right spot at the right time. Large cow nose rays are also in the mix on both daytime and nighttime bites. Snapper blues are increasing both in numbers and in size out back

    John at The Dock Outfitters said "fluke or crabs, your choice!" He said Island Beach State Park is the most popular spot for fluke fishing due to its many unguarded fishing areas available. Crabbing is better on the west side of the bay. Crabbing from a boat is your better option, he said, and the folks using their rental boats are putting together nice catches.

    John at The Dock Outfitters said they hear of some small blues, small bass, and mixed sizes of fluke in Island Beach State Park around the North Jetty. The surf has been producing some nice fluke to those targeting them. Fluke fishing is not a lazy man's game, your presentations must be in constant motion and mobility is the key to success. The dock out back is in crab catching mode, with our rental boats coming back in with some really nice catches of keeper crabs.

    John at The Dock Outfitters said the crabbers out on the dock at the shop have been picking away at some nice keeper crabs. A few small bluefish showed up over the weekend and were hitting cut baits. "With the warmer sunny weather, more keeper crabs may be on the move," he said. The interest in surf fishing is taking on a summer mindset with first and last light being the most desirable times to fish. The night shark fishing is gaining interest with some nice tackle-straining brutes already taken. They have added Peruvian smelts to their bait list for the fluke anglers seeking trophy fish.

    John at The Dock Outfitters said medium bluefish invaded the dock at the shop over the weekend and the action was excellent, which was a nice change from Friday when things were somewhat slow. The striped bass were playing hard to find. Small to keeper size fluke are being taken around the BB and BI buoys..
