Bernie's Bait & Tackle

July 16, 2018:
Over at Bernie's B&T on Emmons Ave in Sheepshead Bay I was told by Jerry Rahn that porgies are setting up shop from the jetty to Cross Bay, the Canarsie Pier, Coney Island Pier and the Sea Wall. Many are in the 13 to 14-inch class. Decent bass fishing is taking place at night but there are only a few blues here and there. Fluke activity is good for anglers employing bucktails and GULP. They can be found at the jetty and the Marine Parkway Bridge, and a few have moved into Ambrose Channel.

Over at Bernie's B&T on Emmons Ave in Sheepshead Bay I was told by Jerry Rahn that porgies have made their intrusion into the Marine Parkway Bridge and Floyd Bennett. Fluke action is improving. The waters from the channel and out towards Sandy Hook have been very productive. Jerry and Michael Giordano worked that area on Saturday and employed bucktails and GULP to connect with eight keepers. On Sunday morning Jerry's pals Scott Porto and Nick Ruggiero also bagged eight keepers. Jerry said that the flatties are staying in tight schools so if you catch a few and continue to drift and the action stops, head back to the same spot. Blues and bass in the bay are jumping on bait rigs or plugs.
