September 16, 2019:
Over at Bernie's B&T on Emmons Ave in Sheepshead Bay I was told that their customers are having a blast with porgies and jumbos to 18-inches have been decked. A few weakfish have been taken as a by catch. Fluke are hanging out in Ambrose Channel and the Atlantic Beach Reef. Small blues, Spanish mackerel and bonito can be found at the jetty and surrounding areas. Albies have been spotted but none have been caught so far. Some decent size bass have been taken on the night bite.

Over at Bernie's B&T on Emmons Ave in Sheepshead Bay I was told by Ralph Giordano that fluke action is there but still not many keepers. Louie Cristiano was aboard the "Reel Impact" with Capt. Brian at the helm when he hammered a sweet doormat flattie of 10-pounds, 12-ounces that was weighed in at the shop. Aboard the Lady Flamingo on Knapp Street, an angler hauled in an 11-pound fluke that hit a diamond jig intended for a bluefish. Porgies and sea bass are biting very well in the bay, the Roundhouse, Marine Parkway Bridge, Breezy Point Jetty and the Canarsie Pier. The better sea bass action is at the Rockaway Reef and Atlantic Beach Reef. Quite a few blues have appeared. The cocktails are in the bay while the beaches in the Rockaways saw choppers in the 7 to 8-pound class. Spanish mackerel and bonito are still hanging in there at the Breezy Point Jetty. Snapper anglers are in a very happy mood at the docks and piers.

Over at Bernie's B&T on Emmons Ave in Sheepshead Bay I was told that action on Spanish mackerel was off and on. The largest body was hanging out by the VZ Bridge and the next best spot was Breezy Point. Some bonito are in the same spots. Porgies are everywhere, but if you want size and quantity you must target the rough bottom and structure areas. Summer flatties are playing hide and seek and the action has been spotty. Customers reported that even the number of shorts is declining. Boats have been working buoy 17 and Ambrose Channel. The bass bite at night has seen only a few keepers. Cocktail blues in the 2 to 3-pound class have made random appearances around the bay. Michael, Jimmy and Jerry from the shop went fluking in Nantucket on the "Helen H" and captured a limit of flatties from 5 to 10-pounds. They said the Gulp Pink Shine was deadly.

Over at Bernie's B&T on Emmons Ave in Sheepshead Bay I was told that blues and bass are biting in the early hours and going after poppers. Bonito and Spanish mackerel are putting on a show at the Breezy Point Jetty. If you target bonito, choose a small compact lure and show them a quick retrieve. The bonito and Spanish macks can also be found at the Coney Island Pier and the Marine Parkway Bridge. Porgy action has been good but not as rock solid as it was this time last year.
