Saltwaters Tackle

September 16, 2019:
At Saltwaters Worldwide Outfitters in West Islip I heard there was a 17.75-pound pound fluke caught by Daniel. Dan had the big flattie aboard the Miss Montauk. Hopefully the fat fluke will be entered in The Fisherman's Dream Boat Contest! On the local scene, weakfish continue to be active in the Ocean Beach area. At the Kismet Reef and the Moses Bridge, porgies and sea bass can be found. Heading towards the inlet area, the OBI sand bar is producing keeper fluke. Just outside the inlet, false albies are chasing tins. Move to the 10-mile mark and you can jig up false albies, bonito and bluefin tuna!

At Saltwaters Worldwide Outfitters in West Islip I heard the Fire Island Reef has been very good for fluke anglers as Gulp, spearing and squid have all accounted for keepers and some limits. Chub macs are also near the reef, and are fun to catch on light tackle. Inside, fluke can be had at the FI Lighthouse area, while smaller weakfish are still off Heckscher. On the docks, snappers and crabs are hot.

At Saltwaters Worldwide Outfitters in West Islip I heard there fluke in the bay and ocean, with better catches outside. Sea bass and porgies are on the reefs and pieces, plus some larger fluke. If you fish the 60-foot depths and work a little bit rather than follow the fleet, you can find larger fluke. The Walcott is a good starting point; fish the edges. Inside the fluking is almost all smaller fish. There are small weakfish and snappers running the bay near West Island and other flats. Spanish macs are roaming the inlet. Its summertime fishing, and there are a lot of fish to catch, it is just a matter of what and where you want to fish!
