Betty & Nick's Bait & Tackle

November 20, 2017:
John at Betty & Nick's said bass fishing resumed for his customers Sunday morning after a front moved through Saturday evening. Anglers stopping into his shop are picking up stripers on bunker from Seaside Park to Gilliken's in Island Beach State Park, and there releasing fish on a regular basis. John said the west wind should fire things up for the coming Thanksgiving weekend.

John at Betty & Nick's said the conditions were perfect for fishing early Sunday but the storm blew out the fishing late in the day. There were some 30-inch bass caught late in the week and some bass caught on bait in South Seaside Park as well. It may be a day or so for the water to clean up after the blow that's supposed to last into Monday.

John at Betty & Nick's has had multiple reports of striped bass from Island Beach State Park and Seaside Park. The fish have been hanging out in the trough and he said if you're fishing artificials with a teaser, it's important to leave your plug in the water until it's at your feet because the bass are hitting right in the trough. "Don't over-cast," he said. Mike Petro had a 32-pound, 45-inch on a Bomber in Island Beach State Park; Gurney Curran had a 29-inch, 9.1-pound striper on a black Bomber at Island Beach State Park; and Tom Weidenbach had a 9-pound, 8-ounce striper on clams in the park. Clams have been a real problem to get, John said.
