Dauntless

January 15, 2018:
Capt. Willie aboard the Dauntless said he's been getting a variety of fish on the trips that they can sail. "We're trying everyday, but it all depends on the number of people that show and of course with what Mother Nature decides," the captain told me. He's been fishing anywhere from 120 to 220 feet depending on the conditions and finding some blackfish, ling, a few cod and even a mackerel or two. Capt. Willie said the mackerel have been way offshore, and he's waiting to see if they come in a little closer for a better shot.

Capt. Willie aboard the Dauntless said weather made for tough fishing in the past week. With sea bass done, he's now targeting ling, cod and blackfish for the New Year. "With this slow action we have been catching 5 to 12 fish per person has been common," Willie said of the daily trips leaving 7:30 a.m.

The Dauntless has been pulling in blackfish, ling and cod. As December finished up, Capt. Willie said they were catching quality-size fish but the fishing had been on the slow side. There were cod and a few pollock in the mix as well, and the biggest surprise: some weakfish. He will be sailing for ling, cod and pollock and will be on the lookout for whiting, which have been showing up in small quantities the last couple of years, and mackerel.

Capt. Willie still has the Dauntless going for sea bass, porgies, and blackfish with winter ling, cod and pollock showing up in the catch. The boat is sailing every allowable weather day for mixed bag fishing.

The Dauntless Capt. Willie said he had a great porgy season though the action has slowed a bit as the "winter fish" are arriving. "We are fishing for sea bass, porgies, and blackfish with winter ling, cod and pollock showing up in the catch," Willie said over the weekend, reporting on catches of 10 to 25 per person of a mixed bag, with nice sized cod and pollock coming in with the colder weather. The Dauntless continues to sail everyday that weather will allow!
