As the winter that once again never quite materialized slowly eases its grip on the region, let's come together and celebrate the season ahead at Striper Surf Day on Saturday, March 25, at Rivers End Tackle located at 440 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook, Connecticut from 10 AM to 4 PM. This is a great day to hang out, take in a seminar or two and share some stories with fellow surf rats. There will be some great speakers on hand with an emphasis on how to demonstrations, factory reps, sales, raffle prizes, great food and good friends. As always the food, parking and entry is FREE!

Dave Pickering will be hosting a seminar titled, "Targeting Keeper Stripers and Big Blues from Shore." He will outline tips and techniques for catching larger fish from shore and will follow a seasonal theme. Plugging with artificials will be emphasized with various types of hard plugs that imitate prey. These include plastics, jigs, swimmers, topwater plugs and various other lures. Identification of seasonal baitfish, fishing the migration periods and fishing at night will all be covered. Dave is a veteran of the seminar circuit and has been writing about fishing in the surf for more than 30 years. ** SPEAKING AT 1:00 PM **

Toby Lapinski will be doing a seminar outlining everything there is to know about fishing eels in the surf for large striped bass. From skins to live to dead to rigged and more, he will tackle the ins and outs of the magical "snake." If time allows, he will finish up his seminar with an open Q&A session on fishing the surf. ** SPEAKING AT 10:00 AM **

Dennis Zambrotta will be on hand to answer all questions related to surfcasting Block Island. He will have island maps, samples of the best gear to use on Block, and a collection of plugs and gear used by Steve Campo including an original hand-made Campo surf bag. He’ll also be signing copies of his book “Surfcasting Around the Block.”

Steve McKenna will be demonstrating how to rig Slug-Gos and load Red Fins and Northbar Bottle Darters.

Billy DeLizio will be demonstrating how he rigs and fishes a wooden eel bob.

One of the highlights of the day will be the awesome raffle prizes. Top prize this year will be a Van Staal reel as well as great rods, reels and lures from other manufacturers.

There will be an extensive line-up of factory reps on hand including Tsunami, Stormr, St. Croix, Albie Snax lures, Guppy Lures, Northbar Tackle, Cobra Baits and more.

The crew from the Connecticut Surfcasters will be on hand to talk about the club and sign up new members.
