Three tournaments over the course of the next week will provide boat and surf anglers with a final opportunity to engage in the competition and camaraderie associated with these events, not to mention the chance to pocket some holiday spending money. All three contests appear to be well timed as the fall run of stripers is in full swing along the South Shore. Hopefully, those participating in these events will practice some restraint when it comes to keeping fish that have no chance of placing in the event.

Kicking off the weekend is the Jones Beach Surf Fishing Classic sponsored by Jones Beach Fishing Station located at Jones Beach Parking Field #10. Fishing begins at 9 a.m. Friday, November 2 and runs through noon on Sunday, November 4. There are prizes for the three largest striped bass and bluefish, including $500 for the largest bass and $500 for the largest bluefish to be paid out at the awards ceremony following the close of fishing on Sunday. The entry fee of $15 includes free giveaways. Entries will be accepted through noon on Saturday for those unable to get to the beach before the weekend. You can enter at the Captree Food Concession Stand or the JB Fishing Station. The fishing station is closed during the week but will be open on Friday and the weekend for entries and weigh-ins. Contest boundaries are Debs Inlet to Fire Island Lighthouse. For more info, call Ed at 631-559-5938.

The Dylan T. Steigerwald Memorial Striped Bass Tournament is being hosted by Captree Bait & Tackle this Saturday, November 3 with a weather date of Sunday, November 4. The contest is meant to honor the life of Dylan Steigerwald. This is a boat only event and the entry fee is $100 per boat with a sign-up deadline of this Wednesday, October 31 at Captree Bait & Tackle. Tournament check in is 6 a.m. at Captree B&T. Weigh-ins are from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the shop. Food and beverages will be provided following the weigh-in. First place is worth $1,000 and second place pays out $600. There is also an optional Calcutta which you can ask about when you enter. If you need more info, call 631-587-3430.

The 28th Annual Riverview Striped Bass Tournament, hosted by The View Restaurant and Lessings Inc. in Oakdale is being held on its traditional Election Day date, which is Tuesday, November 6th this year. The contest pays out cash prizes for the 15 largest stripers, and proceeds from the event are donated to Send A Kid Fishing. An optional Calcutta in which most every boat participates is also available. Registration is at the captains meeting, 6 p.m. Monday, November 5th at The View Restaurant in Oakdale. An awards ceremony with full dinner follows final weigh-in on Tuesday evening. For more info, call tournament director Jimmy Hahn at 631-589-2694.
