Here is a simple trick for attaching a solid-eye treble hook to a fishing lure when you cannot use a split ring.
By Toby Lapinski
In general the use of a split ring to attach a treble hook to a fishing lure or plug is the best choice. However, there are times when an angler needs or even simply prefers to use a cut hook. Unfortunately most modern hook manufacturers do not offer heavy-duty hooks in cut-eye versions so one must cut the hook themselves. In this video, Toby Lapinski shows the jig that he made to easily hold a treble hook while cutting, opening and closing the hook without deforming its shape or diminishing its strength. He also lends a tip which helps to reduce the rate at which the cut hook will corrode in a saltwater environment.
