I had a chance to jump onboard the Pursuit S378 Sport at the Miami Boat Show and the first impression was that she’s an evolutionary step above the usual contemporary center console sportfisher. In the bow, there’s bench seating with insulated storage below, forward facing backrests port and starboard, plus a removable center jump seat for easy access to the anchor locker. The forward fiberglass table and base are easily removed and tuck neatly into a designated storage area. All of the custom cockpit upholstery features Dri-Fast foam and mesh backing. The Pursuit cockpit JL Audio entertainment system will rock on with a Media Master 12V Bluetooth compatible stereo system featuring six premium JL Audio speakers and a pair of subwoofers that are brought to life by twin power amplifiers.

The helm area offers triple bolster seats with folding armrests, sculpted flip-up bolsters and lumbar support, a 316L stainless steel steering wheel with spinner knob on a Yamaha electric steering control with programmable steering friction, with a top-loaded glovebox, complete with a USB wireless phone charger. Aft of the steering station, there’s a molded, electric-sliding entertainment center with Corian accents, a molded sink with hot/cold mixing faucet, an electric cockpit that will allow you to “catch ‘em and cook ‘em,” a 1.3 cubic foot top-loaded refrigerator/freezer with hinged fiberglass lids, cutting board, a trio of storage drawers, plus a 120V outlet with GFI protection. A doublewide aft-facing molded cockpit seat with armrests and storage below will allow two of the crew to keep an eye on the trolling lures under the protection of the extended fiberglass hardtop. If you need additional cockpit seating when underway, a folding transom bench with flipping backrest pops down from the transom bulkhead on demand. Stepping down into the deep console, there’s a twin berth forward, stand-up head with shower and china bowl toilet, microwave and plenty of storage.

Go Fish
When it’s time to fish, the Pursuit S378 Sport gets serious with a total of 10 rodholders topsides, another nine in horizontal storage racks under the gunwales and hardtop, plus you can add an optional six-pack rocket launcher overhead, with additional rod stowage down below. A 36-gallon livewell will keep your baits frisky, with both fresh and raw water washdown systems, twin 41-gallon macerated fishboxes under the cockpit sole and you can add optional Taco telescoping outriggers. The cockpit tackle center offers dry stowage, plus four removable Plano trays. There are also aluminum reinforcement plates and wiring for twin downrigger installations in the aft gunwales port and starboard.

Let’s Dance
The current power choice on the S378 Sport is a trio of Yamaha’s 425 XTO V-8 four-stroke outboards. Spinning 21-inch pitch XTO 3-blade S/S props, she’ll hit a top speed of 60-mph at wide open throttle (5900 rpm). Dialing it back to more sedate cruising speeds, the sweet spot for the DTS electric controls range from 3500-to-4000 rpm. She’ll hit 32-mph at 3500 on the digital tach while drinking 35-gph, for a net of 0.91-mpg; at four-grand, the S378 will boogie at 38.4-mph with a fuel consumption of 44.4-gph, which translates to 0.86-mpg. The 427-gallon fuel capacity will give you a realistic 345-to-350 statute mile cruising range in optimum conditions, factoring in a 10% reserve. Depending on where you call home port, there are a number of bluewater canyons that could be on the potential menu, with usable 30-to-35 knot cruising speeds to get you there and back in a hurry.

Notable standard features include a through-stem anchor system with 316L S/S roller, 35-lb S/S plow anchor, 300’ of 5/8-inch rode and 20-feet of galvanized chain; dedicated transducer location for ease of mounting and access; a self-draining cockpit with molded water management and bronze valves at hull sides; a bonding system for all underwater through-hull fittings; five battery electrical system, with separate electrical system and house system AGM power cells and 40-amp battery charger; 240V/50A dockside power; 60-gallon 240V stainless steel hot water heater; 240V 8kW Fischer Panda diesel generator with separate 24-gallon tank; a fire suppression stem and much more.
