John D. Silva

John D. Silva is an award-winning freelance outdoors writer, photographer and humorist with over 40 years of experience fishing inland and coastal waters in the US and Canada. He is an active member in the New England Outdoor Writer’s Association and has published features and columns ranging from tips, tackle, rigging and techniques; to outdoor humor, history, cooking and even motion-sickness remedies. His literary work and photography have been featured in several popular outdoor publications including Eastern Fly Fishing, Sporting Classics, Coastal Angler, and The Fisherman Magazine, among others.

John’s award-winning photography has appeared on the inside pages and on the cover of The Fisherman Magazine, winning top prize in their respective categories and earning him recognition among his peers. Award-winning written material that has appeared in The Fisherman Magazine includes, among others: “The Kangaroo Court of Charter Fishing Etiquette” and “Fishing on Mother’s Day,” (awarded Best Humor by the New England Outdoor Writers Association.)

John was introduced to fishing at an early age. Throughout his travels, (including a 4-year stint in the US Navy), he has become well-versed in a wide range of fishing tackle and techniques applicable from coast to coast in both freshwater and saltwater. These days, his outdoors experience serves him well on his home waters of Cape Cod and Buzzards Bay. A dedicated, 12-month-a-year, all-weather, all-tackle angler, John has always remained true to his belief that the fun in fishing is foremost.
