Scott Newhall Scott Newhall

Contributing Writer

Captain Scott Newhall is a third generation fisherman in a family lineage that has produced proficient anglers in both freshwater and saltwater. Like Captain Scott’s father and grandfather, his favorite species to passionately target is summer flounder. He has spent time chasing doormat fluke and many other species from the Carolinas to the northeast.

Captain Scott received his bachelor’s degree in education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1999, and followed that up with the acquisition of his captain’s license shortly thereafter. In 2001, he penned his first article for the The Fisherman's Mid-Atlantic edition, and he has continued to contribute features annually. In 2007, Capt. Scott established Time Out Charters, which is based in Absecon and focuses on the waters in the Greater Atlantic City region. He continues to study the migratory patterns, feeding habits, ecosystem roles and game fish tendencies that dominate New Jersey back bay and ocean waters, and is always eager to share his knowledge with aspiring anglers.

CRUSH BARBS FOR EASY RELEASE, EXTRA SAFETY

Crushing the barbs on your hooks makes it easier to free them from the jaws of bass and blues. It might also help you avoid a trip to the hospital should you get stuck. The Fisherman's Fred Golofaro tackles the task.
