Capt. Al Anderson

Capt. Al Anderson became a USCG licensed charter skipper in 1967. Thanks to bevies of clients who supported his “conservation for science” ethic and assisted with his legendary fish tagging activities, he has become a well known and respected member of the fishing community and beyond.
Al has been awarded a number of conservation awards including the Atlantic Tuna Club (ATC) Conservation Award, 1992 – for Atlantic bluefin tuna tagging, the New England Outdoor Writers Association (NEOWA) Conservation Award, 1993 – for game fish tagging, the International Game Fish Association Conservation Award (IGFA), 1995 – for Bluefin Tuna Tagging, the Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association (RISAA) Conservation Award, 2003 – for game fish tagging, and the American Littoral Society (ALS) Conservation Award, 2010 – for 2,000 plus reported striped bass tag recaptures. In 2012 he will be inducted into the IGFA's World Fishing HALL OF FAME for his career tagging of over 60,000 game fish for science.
Over the years Captain Al has authored a number of memorable books including The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna; Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow, 1990 (The Fisherman Magazine Library); To Catch a Tuna; Gamefish Tag & Release, 1995, (The Fisherman Magazine Library); O-W Striper Secrets, 2009; and Island Stripers, 2012. Since 1985, Al has authored a great many articles that have graced the pages of such magazines as The Fisherman, Saltwater Sportsman, Sport Fishing, Charter Industry, and Soundings. In total, he has penned over 200 articles.
Al was instrumental in creating the Rhode Island Marine Sportfishing Alliance (RIMSA) in 1987, and has served on the board of directors for a number of sport fishing clubs, organizations and tournaments, including the Scituate Saltwater Anglers Assoc., the RI Marine Trades Association, the Point Judith High Neighbor Striped Bass & Bluefish Tournament, the Block Island Invitational Billfish Tournament, the Ram Point Marina Offshore Tournament, and the RI Tuna Tournament.
