Tom Schlichter

An award-winning outdoor writer and photographer, Tom Schlichter has penned more than 3,500 articles and columns for a wide array of prestigious magazines, newspapers, web sites and other venues including The Fisherman Magazine, Boating Magazine, Salt Water Sportsman and Animal Planet's River Monsters television series. Tom is currently managing editor of The Fisherman Group, and also the outdoors columnist for Newsday.

Known for his friendly and informative style, "Outdoor Tom" as he is called by many, has penned four books and contributed to several more. His own titles include: Long Island’s Best Freshwater Fishing, Coastal Angling Guide, Northeast Party Boat Fishing, and How to Catch Clams By the Bushel! He also produces Long Island's Best Fishing Calendar.

Tom published his very first article under the tutelage of The Fisherman senior editor Fred Golofaro nearly 30 years ago and is equally at home on a small freshwater pond as he is working the rips under Montauk Light. At one time or another he has penned the Freshwater, East End, North Fork, North Shore, South Shore and West End reports for The Fisherman while covering bluegills to bluefins. In the process he has been fortunate enough to garner, among other awards, a half-dozen first place and numerous second- and third-place honors from the New York State Outdoors Writers Association Excellence In Craft Contest and the Janice Keesler Memorial Photography Contest.

He currently lives in Southold, NY, where he enjoys catching everything from trout and bigmouths to fluke, blackfish, cod and stripers.
