Bill Stamatis Bill Stamatis

Field Editor

Bill Stamatis has been contributing articles and writing fishing reports for The Fisherman for close to two decades. He has fished on Long Island  for over 50 years, covering the East River to Montauk. These days he concentrates mostly on the eastern reaches of Long Island Sound. You'll find him chasing stripers on moonlit nights east of Orient Point, drifting for fluke around Greenport or anchored over rocky ledges as he tangles with bulldog blackfish. He takes great pleasure in sharing his enthusiasm for the sport with his seven grand children and all those who read The Fisherman Magazine.

CRUSH BARBS FOR EASY RELEASE, EXTRA SAFETY

Crushing the barbs on your hooks makes it easier to free them from the jaws of bass and blues. It might also help you avoid a trip to the hospital should you get stuck. The Fisherman's Fred Golofaro tackles the task.
