William Muller

William A. Muller has been an outdoors writer since 1973. “Doc” as he is known affectionately by many, has penned thousands of articles for The Fisherman, Salt Water Sportsman, Motorboat, and Offshore magazines. He has also penned nine fishing books, his latest titled: Surfcaster. In addition to his prolific fishing writings, Doc has written two action/adventure novels: Plague of Terror, and Vanishing Cure.

A favorite seminar host at the winter shows, Doc holds both a master’s degree and Ph.D. and has shared his knowledge on several fishing-related committees and advisory councils. He was one of the founders of the N.Y. State Parks Fishing Advisory Board formed in 1978, on which he continues as a member today. He was also a member of the High Hill Striper Club for 25 years, and helped found the Traditional Surfcasters (2002).

The winner of over 100 first place awards as a competitive surf angler, Doc did research at the American Museum of Natural History and the Marine Microbial Ecology Lab, publishing over 30 journal articles. He was a professor at the N. Y. Institute of Technology for 35 years before retiring recently.
