The 7th Annual Barrier Island Beach Brawl returns this Friday and Saturday, October 10 and October 11. Based out of Playa Bowls and the Crabs Claw Inn in Lavallette and presented by Nick Honachefsky and Saltwater Underground, , this surfcasters only event boasts more than 15 eligible species for cash prizes, from albies, bonito and croaker to Spanish mackerel, sheepshead and a striped bass (photo/release only category).
Last year’s event dished out over $35,000 in free fishing gear and cash prizes, while also donating 100 pounds of fresh fish fillets to the Point Pleasant Pantry charity to feed the homeless and hungry while raising nearly $2,000 dollars for St. Jude charities.
“I started the Barrier Island Beach Brawl (as) a surf fishing tournament to bring everyone together, no matter your skill level or your fishing knowledge,” said Honachefsky, adding “A place where people can come fish again with their friends and family, and meet someone eye to eye instead of behind a computer screen to make new friends.”
Honachefsky also noted that everyone who joins at $49 per angler walks away with prizes as well, thanks to an incredible lineup of sponsors. The tournament boundaries are from the Manasquan Inlet to Island Beach State Park, and has become local tradition over the past 7 years.
