June 6-8 Meeting Of Mid-Atlantic Marine Fisheries Council

The Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council (MAFMC) will meet Tuesday, June 6 through Thursday, June 8, 2023 in Virginia Beach, VA. The meeting will be held at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront at 3001 Atlantic Avenue in Virginia Beach.

This will be an in-person meeting with a virtual option. Council members, other meeting participants, and members of the public will have the option to participate in person at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront or virtually via Webex webinar.   Details at www.mafmc.org/briefing/june-2023.

On the MAFMC agenda of interest to anglers for Tuesday is blueline tilefish (1 p.m.) followed by golden tilefish (2 p.m.), with both meetings review various specifications and harvest information.  On Wednesday, most of the day’s discussion deals with the Atlantic surf clam and ocean quahog fisheries, as well as butterfish, monkfish, dogfish and Atlantic chub mackerel discussions.  There’s also a Highly Migratory Species update (11:30 a.m.) which includes proposed rule on electronic reporting requirements, followed by a regional strategic plan (2:30) discussion with NOAA Fisheries regional administrator Mike Pentony, and an offshore wind update (3 p.m.) with NOAA and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management.

On Thursday, June 8th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. is dedicated to MAFMC business with committee updates other business including general public comment.
