Weekend Tournaments Along The South Jersey Shore

Looking to add a little competitive edge to your weekend fishing?  Whether “floundering” around on the inshore grounds or chasing tuna out along the edge, there are a few Atlantic and Cape May County tournament options for you and your crew in the weekend ahead.

The 18th Annual Grassy Sound Flounder Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, June 22; this is a back bay only tournament pitting the best skinny water flounder anglers against each other in a competitive yet fun atmosphere.  Captain’s meeting is Friday at Grassy Sound Marina in North Wildwood, with the fishing getting underway at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday.  Final weigh-ins are due by 4:30 p.m. with BBQ awards ceremony after. Look for registrations at the marina, call 609-846-1400 or visit grassysoundmarina.com.

Another fluke tournament with great history will be held out of the Egg Harbor Township Lodge #2563 with the 26th Annual “Brutus” Fluke Tournament this Saturday, June 22.  Held in memory of the late Walter Gregory, Sr. the event benefits the charitable works of the EHT Lodge.  Look for registration information scattered about the Atlantic County coastal area in tackle shops and marinas, or contact Walter at 609-513-6219 or Fred at 609-626-2675.

Of course, most schools (and students) should be officially enjoying summer break as of this week, and the best way to celebrate the end of another busy and stressful academic year is by hitting the offshore tuna grounds.  The School’s Out Tuna Tournament is the perfect event to get out while the action is red hot!  Now partnering with the Cape May Marlin & Tuna Club and Jim’s Bait and Tackle, South Jersey Tournaments is teaming up with the local community to kick off this June 19-23 event.  Captains meeting is Wednesday, June 19, and the fish days are from Thursday to Sunday targeting yellowfin, bigeye, and even swords and mahi.  Go to southjerseytournaments.com.
