Anglers fishing the shorelines between the east end of the Cape Cod Canal to the North Shore have been reporting that fishing is on fire for both stripers and blues. With the abundance of peanut bunker and mackerel available for the bass and bluefish to feast on, the fishing hopefully should remain strong through the fall migration. September weather can be awesome and the fishing fantastic as long as a tropical depression don’t bring our boating and fishing season to an abrupt halt. With the offshore tuna season closed until October 1, sharks are very abundant and offer a great option for offshore anglers. Thresher, mako, porbeagle and blue sharks make for great sport and are tons of fun to catch and release.

There is a ton of peanut bunker along the beaches between Brant Rock and Scituate Harbor. There have been dozens of surface blitzes of both blues and stripers this past week. Many of the stripers are in the 20-pound range and the bluefish are all gorillas in the 12- to 15-pound class. Boston Harbor still is holding big schools of pogies which is keeping the stripers and bluefish in feeding mode. The fall run is an exciting time of the Northern New England fishing season. It can mean lights-out action and phenomenal opportunities to make some awesome memories. September is a great month on both the inshore and offshore grounds. If you are able, try to make some time and cash in on the great resources we are blessed with as saltwater anglers here in New England. The giant tuna season re-opened on September 1st and the fishing has been very good. Bluefin are being caught from Stellwagen Bank to Jeffrey’s Ledge as well as many of the inshore ledges. If the weather cooperates and your boat it outfitted with all the required safety gear, get out there and try your luck.
