Capt. Sal of Moondance Charters reports a great week on the water with weather and fishing. John LaCosta and his family came aboard this week for a full day with blackfish and easily limited out. Hannah, Michael and their two sons Rodrigo and Josh came out to troll up some bass and then boxed a bunch of monster blackfish. The bass are all pretty small, but it was fun for the kids to try to get a keeper. They must’ve had fifty bass and all were cookie cutter 24 to 26-inch fish. It’s a great sign for the fishery in the future and great for fly fishing, diamond jigging’ and trolling, Ed DiBenisi and crew came out and banged out a limit of sea bass and a few cod by Block Island. Fabian and the boys from Uruguay came out and really did a great job for their first blackfish trip. They just about limited out and had a great time, while sandwiched in trolling for some bass. There still some November dates available for blackfish, sea bass, and striped bass. To book your trip, give a call at (917) 601-4548. Also follow the exploits on Facebook

Capt. Sal of Moondance Charters reports not a great weather week but the fish are still here. The days they did sail resulted in excellent striper and tautog fishing. There are even some local cod and herring around, but Sal is mainly focusing on striped bass, which is producing some keepers, along with plenty of decent blackfish and sea bass. Big blues showed up recently and even some porgies remains in the mix without going far. As long as the weather holds on, it seems like it’s an excellent opportunity to come out and fish. There still some November dates available for blackfish, sea bass, and striped bass. To book your trip, give a call at (917) 601-4548. Also follow the exploits on Facebook

October 26, 2020 - 09:45:47

Capt. Sal of Moondance Charters reports another busy week in amazingly nice weather and great fishing to match. The stripers are on the small side but they are everywhere with blues and albies mixed in, buts it’s the blackfishing that has really taken off with loads of keepers with some bulldogs thrown in the mix here and there. Sea bass and porgies are solid by Block Island and will only get better as the scup and biscuits continue to move into the deep water. As long as the weather holds on, it seems like it’s an excellent opportunity to come out and fish. There still some November dates available for blackfish and striped bass. To book your trip, give a call at (917) 601-4548.

October 19, 2020 - 09:45:21

The weekend produced all the bass you cared to catch with pods of bass actually bubbling. In the meantime, when the boat is limited to where it could fish, blackfish has been excellent by Fishers Island with green crabs accounting for limits of tog and good shots at sea bass when they sail that way. There still some November dates available for blackfish and striped bass. To book your trip, give a call at (917) 601-4548. Also follow the exploits on Facebook

Capt. Sal of Moondance Charters reports weather played a big role in orchestrating fishing this week, yet Capt. Sal and his charters managed to go out slamming nice bass around the Montauk waters. Evans and Carries celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary by coming out for a bass trip, and yes, the bass and blues were there. The crew set the couple up with light spinning tackle, with the duo nailing all the bass they wanted ranging from schoolies to cow bass. The lovely couple kept two slot fish, releasing the rest unharmed. John D. and Bobby Ducks came out and also slammed stripers of all sizes but was only interested in keeping a load of bluefish for the smoker. All the bass and some blues were all safely released. Donald M and his wife Cathy also enjoyed light tackle action blasting big blues and bass, then finished the day with some fluke by the Radar Tower. Speaking of fluke, Anzio and crew did very well as the three guys landed eight beautiful fluke to 8,5- pounds. Some dates are available for shark fishing as they are close to home right now. There are also dates for October and November blackfish. Capt. Sal of Moondance Charters reports another busy week including several tuna trips. Claire and the Irish guys from Woodside, nailed two small tuna. It’s was a long steam to the grounds, but they were all happy. The next day, Troy from South Africa, who now lives in Westchester, and his two sons came out and one of the sons got sick immediately. The other fell asleep, and Troy was happy to chat and not really fish. So Capt. Sal and his mate jigged for a bit and got skunked. Everyone was asleep, so Sal came back inshore to Cartwright and practically sunk the boat with sea bass. Everyone was up and happy. The next day a bunch of Air Force members from Gabreski came out for tuna. The captain saw a scallop dredger on the way out, got behind the dredger and the guys had a bluefin on. The problem was the angler who took the rod didn’t set the hook, so the speedster lives another day. So, instead of tuna, the crew decide to go sharking and landed a 165-pound thresher. Another tuna trip this week was switched to fluking for Kevin, who treated his customers to a trip. The weather wasn’t favorable so they went fluking by the point and did very well there until the wind kicked up so they finished out the day bailing sea bass. Some dates are available for September shark and tuna fishing as both species are close to home right now. There are also dates for October and November blackfish. In addition, the captain specializes in light tackle casting for albacore, bonito, and bluefish, which are thick along the point and southside. To book your trip, give a call at (917) 601-4548. Airman and crew had some successful bottom fishing. Tom Connelly and crew trolled up big blues and then nailed a sea bass and porgy limit. Renzo and family came out for porgies and sea bass, which is exactly what they got, filling the box limits of both species. Dave Craig from San Francisco came to New York to see if fishing was as good as he’s been told. He got his answer by slamming the stripers, culling a few keepers, and then proceeded to nail a limit of sea bass. Ellie and crew came out for fluke, nailing nine to eight pounds. Lisa came out with the kids and the kids were great drilling up a mess of fluke to 6-pounds and loads of big sea bass. September is just about booked. Scotty G and crew came out and scored with a limit of sea bass and six fluke to seven pounds. E and crew of Senior Korean Gentleman from Manorville came out for a fluke trip. They each had top quality light spinning and conventional gear and more Gulp baits than Dicks Sporting Goods. The guys only used double bucktails and big Gulp baits and knocked the socks out of the fluke, putting 23 quality fluke to 9 pounds in the box. Other trips with Lisa and family, Pepe and crew, John, John, and others were productive. John’s daughter Hailey landed a seven-pound fluke at the radar tower.
