March felt like it would never come with this wicked winter we’ve had, but it’s finally upon us; with it comes the reopening of the backwaters for striped bass. So much snowfall and ice covering have dropped bay and river temps to 34 degrees and with all the freshwater snowmelt to come, it may be a late start to the striper season as they will have to adjust to the cold water and freshwater influx. Don’t forget that winter flounder season also reopens with a two fish bag and 12-inch minimum size, so long as there is no ice on the bays!
