November Rain Charters planned to fish last week for their season finale but the high winds kept them tied up. The boat is now done for the season and will be sailing again in the springtime. They want to wish everyone a safe and happy New Year.

November 23, 2020 - 09:33:10

Captain Jill and Capt. Steve of November Rain Charters reports the weather continues to be uncooperative and again forcing disappointing cancellations for hungry tog fishermen. On the flip side of the coin, the days the boat was able to get off the dock, fishing has continued to show solid results. Early in the week Paul "Nice Guy" Galeno and crew came aboard yet again for another trip, enjoying nonstop blackfishing. The cold temps were tough to deal with, but the crew landed their limit of togs by mid-morning and packing it in pack before the afternoon's weather rolled in. On Thursday, had the pleasure of fishing with the Dunston family, which despite the blistery cold temps, the gang stuck at it and loaded the box with togs before heading back to their cars for toasty temperatures. The Tim Schweitzer crew made another appearance at the end of the week. Capt. Steve tried some new bottom and while it wasn't lock and load, the quality of fish was impressive, with a few togs in the 8 to 9-pound class along with some impressive cod and a handful of sea bass. The boat will be sailing until early December with still a few dates open for those looking to take a shot at some big tog and filling the freezer with some tasty holiday seafood. Capt. Jill and Capt. Steve would like to thank all their groups who sailed with them this season and would like to wish them and all Fisherman readers a very safe and healthy Holiday Season. They are now accepting reservations for the 2021 season, but you better book soon, as dates go quick aboard this vessel. November 16, 2020 - 09:31:22

Captain Jill and Capt. Steve of November Rain Charters started off the week with Matt and crew, continuing with combo fishing from last week, which proved impressive with multiple sea bass in the 5-pound range and togs to 9 pounds filling the box. Stu and boys returned for another trip and continued the streak by putting together a nice catch of sea bass and blackfish in the box by the end of the day. A crew trip in the middle of the week had a fun time loading the boat with tog. A couple of trips were postponed due to weather but sailed again on Saturday with Pat and the boys enjoying insane blackfishing with well over 60 keeper togs to Dane’s 10-pounder. The boat will be fishing throughout November. Don't miss out on the last few weeks of an insane blackfish bite. Therefore book your trip by giving the captain’s a call at (646) 423-8806 or (646) 335-7315

November 09, 2020 - 09:40:23

Captain Jill and Capt. Steve of November Rain Charters reports fishing almost exclusively for blackfish this past week, starting off with James Grace and his buddies. The guys tomahawked the fish from the minute they put lines in, with an easy limit of over 30 blackfish, with the biggest in the 9 plus pound range. After boxing their limit, they traded up for some bigger fish. Couldn't ask for a better way to kick off November. George and the boys from Howard Beach made their annual trip snatching up their limit of blackfish by 10:30 A.M. also fishing for upgrades for the remainder of the day. Matt and his buddies came out towards the end of the week and enjoyed good action with the blackfish. They spent some time sea bass fishing, which resulted in a nice cull of fish up to 5-pounds. The boat will be fishing throughout November. Don't miss out on the last few weeks of an insane blackfish bite. Therefore book your trip by giving the captain’s a call at (646) 423-8806 or (646) 335-7315

November 02, 2020 - 15:58:28

Captain Jill and Capt. Steve of November Rain Charters reports the tog bite is excellent and that was all they fished for this week when they weren’t blown out. The week started off with James Daniels and his family. These guys have been fishing with Jill and Steve for years, with this week being their first-ever tog trip and the action didn't disappoint.  The group put a limit of more than 20 fish on the box before calling it an early day. Marc Jacobs returned for another trip with Jill and Steve and once again Marc and his buddies loaded the boat with fish. The pouring rain didn't damper their spirits or the fishing and an easy limit was boxed before heading back home.  Mark, Julian and Aiden also returned for another trip, also their first time togging and despite the frigid temps, the trio effortlessly boxed their limit and then kept fishing for upgrades. The boat will be fishing throughout November. Weekends are fully booked, but there's still availability during the week.  Don't miss out on the last few weeks of an insane blackfish bite. Therefore book your trip by giving the captain’s a call at (646) 423-8806 or (646) 335-7315

October 26, 2020 - 09:45:47

Captain Jill and Capt. Steve of November Rain Charters reports the week started off great with the Peter Wagenhauser group returning for yet another trip this season, this time for blackfish. The boys once more kept the rods bent with over 3 dozen keeper blackfish and a handful of quality sea bass. Couldn't have asked for a better trip.  Monday saw first-timer Natalie Schrager and the gang out for Chris' birthday. The crew kept busy jigging striped bass throughout the trip, keeping one for dinner and releasing all others. Frank and his crew also made their first trip during the week enjoying filling the box with big chunky blackfish. Robert and the boys had similar results with big chunky togs during mid-week. The group limited out with over 30 tog, releasing a number of other keepers, before calling it a day. Tim Schweitzer returned yet again for some more great fishing enjoying an unbeatable blackfish bite as the guys limited out with fish before lunch time. The blackfishing continued to impress into the weekend with Joe Aviles and crew. The guys returned for their second trip of the season and the bite was even better than the day before with another easy limit of fish to 9 ½-pounds. Since the box filled in no time with their tog limit, the guys played catch-and-release for the remainder of the trip. The boat continues to enjoy an insane blackfish bite and will be fishing throughout the month of November. There still plenty of weekday availability. Therefore book your trip by giving the captain’s a call at (646) 423-8806 or (646) 335-7315

October 19, 2020 - 09:45:21

Captain Jill and Capt. Steve of November Rain Charters reports the wind and rain continues to be relentless, forcing postponement of a few trips this past week. The fish continue to chew and the days that the boat is fishing have repeatedly produced a nice catch. At the start of the week, Stu had a surprise fishing trip thanks to his soon-to-be wife Flo. The gang kept the rods bent with striped bass to start the trip and finished off with some nice sea bass and scup. There are tons of striped bass around, but you need to weed through the smaller fish to find the slots. Great action all day, though. The boat then remained idle until Delta passed through, then made the first tog trip of the season with Daran and crew on Thursday. The action did not disappoint with the guys landed a limit of blackfish, with a couple of bruisers in the mix. Pierre and his family fished on Friday with the trio easily landed their slot striped bass limit and had fun returning a number of oversized fish as well. The wind again blew on Saturday and the trip with Don and the boys had to be canceled. The boat will be fishing throughout the month of November. Most weekends are booked, but there still plenty of weekday availability. Give us a call to get in on the fall bottom fishing bite by giving the captain’s a call at (646) 423-8806 or (646) 335-7315

October 12, 2020 - 10:09:37

Captain Jill and Capt. Steve of November Rain Charters reports starting off the week with first-timer Keith Arp and his crew. Initially scheduled as a tuna trip, but the group decided to stay inshore, which paid off nicely. The guys enjoyed a morning of striped bass fishing followed by a productive afternoon catching sea bass and scup. Monday’s weather proved to be uncooperative, postponing most trips except for the Tim Schweitzer gang on Tuesday. These guys have fished a couple of times already this year and the action, once again, didn’t disappoint. The boys limited out on striped bass and sea bass with ease. Chris Anzelone and friends came out at the end of the week and the guys had fun jigging striped bass and albies. Just as he mid-week trips, Saturday trip was also bagged due to the weather. Looking forward to making up the missed charters later this season when the blackfish start chewing. The striper and bottom fishing remains excellent with sea bass, scup, and blackfish. With that said, there still some availability in October and November, which is a great time to fish for blackfish and hopefully striped bass. October 05, 2020 - 09:48:29

Captain Jill and Capt. Steve of November Rain Charters reports Mike O'Halloran and crew came back for their annual trip at the start of the week. The fishing was okay with a few striped bass on diamond jigs, but not the action Capt. Steve was hoping for. Later that day, however, was another story as Capt. Steve went back out with first-timer Dan Smith and his crew experiencing phenomenal fishing as the guys jigged their limit of striped bass with ease and continued to catch and release all afternoon, including some bass over 40-pounds. Monday saw the Ray Kessler group give the end of season fluke a try. The fluke bite hadn't been that great, but the boys stuck at it and pulled together a respectable catch of fish. First-timer Monika and crew from the police K-9 unit had a great day on the water Tuesday, boxing nine striped bass before topping off the catch with a few sea bass. Wednesday’s trip was bagged due to the wind but picked up again during the second half of the week with more impressive fishing. Chris Hill and crew were back for their annual trip and the striped bass bite was again excellent. The guys caught a total of 17 slot striped bass, releasing most and keeping their limit of 8. Couldn't have asked for better fishing. Ed Anderson sailed at the end of the week for one of a few trips he and the guys make each season. The crew boxed a few striped bass, despite the bass not being as cooperative as the prior day, however they topped off the trip with a nice cull of sea bass. The striper and bottom fishing remains excellent with sea bass, scup, and blackfish opening next week.

September 28, 2020 - 09:33:13

Captain Jill and Capt. Steve of November Rain Charters reports the weather kept them tied to the dock for half the week, juggling trips and rescheduling most of them. They finally made it back out mid-week with Erik Perry and gang with the striped bass waiting for the guys and their diamond jigs for an easy limit of slot size fish, safely returning a few oversized fish as well. It was a great way to get back on the water. Marc Jacobs made his third trip aboard the boat so far this year this week this week as well. The gang had a load of oversize fish to 35-pounds, which unfortunately they did not have as many keepers, but did box a few and also snapped photos with the big fish before releasing them. Fud, his family and friends also returned for another trip, starting the morning jigging bass and blues. After putting a few fish in the box, they switched to bottom fishing, adding a nice catch of sea bass to the mix. Sid celebrated his 10th birthday aboard the November Rain on Saturday with Capt. Steve taking Sid, his family, and friends bottom fishing. The group of 13 kept busy with sea bass and scup from start to finish.  What’s better than spending a birthday fishing aboard the big and comfy November Rain with a pair of captains and their crew with proficiency and courtesy second to none. The bottom fishing remains excellent with sea bass, scup, and blackfish opening next week. With that said, there still some availability in October and November, which is a great time to fish for blackfish and hopefully striped bass. September 21, 2020 - 12:38:55

Captain Jill and Capt. Steve of November Rain Charters reports the fall weather is upon us and as great as the fishing remains, battling the wind has become a little more frequent.  Al Esposito, his family and friends sailed at the start of the week trolling for striped bass and the guys landed a few impressive fish before the bluefish invasion, at which point the charter decided to switch over for bottom fishing where the group of 8 filled the boat with sea bass and scup. Kevin Kern and his FDNY brothers returned for their annual trip with a few over-sized striped bass starting the trip off, before turning to the sea bass, which produced a nice catch of fish for the guys to take home. Anthony Arena and his group of 11 people also sailed this this week, sticking with bottom fishing which paid off nicely, with jumbo sea bass in the 4-pound range throughout the trip. An offshore trip was achieved for April Caperna's group later in the week, but some of the anglers weren't up for the rolling seas, so the trip was short. The northeast winds at the end of the week kept the boat tied to the dock waiting for calmer seas. The bottom fishing remains excellent with sea bass, scup, striped bass, and blackfish opening soon. With that said, there still some availability in October, which is a great time to fish in nice weather. September 14, 2020 - 09:37:39

Captain Jill and Capt. Steve of November Rain Charters tells us despite what the calendar says, the summer bite is still on. The week started with Chris Adamo, who returned to fishing with NRC after having missed Montauk the last few years. Chris spent the trip bottom fishing, which paid off nicely with an abundance of sea bass.  First-timer Judy Wu, her friends and family fished early in the week for sea bass and scup, keeping the rods bent and muscles flexing, putting together a nice mixed bag catch. Joe and Jennifer took their kids out for a trip which is a great way to end the summer. The crew had a blast teaching the kids how to bait hooks, catch and unhook their fish, taking only about a dozen for lunch and dinner. Tuesday saw the David Moss and Kim Lee charters keeping the hot streak going with bottom fishing, loading up with about 2 dozen fish on each trip. The crew decided to give the striped bass fishing a whirl with the Dennis Lee gang on Wednesday, which was a good call as the group enjoyed good action, keeping some slot size fish, and releasing a few overs and shorts. Else Mitchem returned for another trip after having had a great first experience earlier this summer. The kids ruled the boat for this one, showing how it's done with sea bass and scup, with most fish in the 3-pound range. Thursday saw returning angler Bob Wong, along with his buddies. The guys started off the day putting five striped bass in the box, releasing a few others. Then they rounded out the day with another 40 or so sea bass. Nick Cuiffo and the boys sailed on windy Saturday and although most boats stayed tied to the dock, they decided to trek over to Block Island. It was too nasty for any striped bass fishing, so instead the guys did a bang-up job putting almost 50 sea bass in the box. The bottom fishing remains excellent with sea bass, scup, striped bass, and blackfish opening soon. With that said, there still some availability in September and October, which is a great time to fish in nice weather. September 08, 2020 - 09:31:27

Captain Jill and Capt. Steve of November Rain Charters reports the week started with returning crew April Caperna and friends that showed how it's done yet again, putting five striped bass and a limit of sea bass in the box with ease. First-timer Tomas and his buddies also sailed early in the week with the catch not as productive as the prior day, but the guys still managed a good pick of striped bass and sea bass on their 3/4-day trip. Wednesday's weather kept the boat tied to the dock. Thursday with Chris and crew. Originally scheduled for an offshore trip, they instead stayed inshore and kept the rods bent with striped bass, bluefish, and sea bass all day. Tim and his buddies came out for the day on Friday, starting out with steady bass action of fish of all sizes. They switch to bottom fishing by mid-morning and the guys loaded up with a limit of sea bass. Saturday saw a repeat of the prior day for Avish and his group of 13 buddies which came out for Avish's bachelor party. The first few hours was spent slamming striped bass and bluefish, and the second half of the day was spent loading up on sea bass.  Final count was around 50 in the box, and they left them chewing. Labor Day weekend may be over, but the great inshore fishing continues with sea bass, scup, striped bass, and blackfish opening soon. With that said, there still some availability in September and October, which is a great time to fish in nice weather. Book your charters to 20 passengers, by giving the captain’s a call at (646) 423-8806 or (646) 335-7315.

August 31, 2020 - 10:10:17

Captain Jill and Capt. Steve of November Rain Charters report starting the week with red-hot bottom fishing with Sanjeev and family doing a quick trip as Sanjeev had to get to work, but the couple of hours fishing was all that they needed to put a few quality fish in the box. Later that day, Jeff and his buddies made the trip over to Block Island and were treated to a couple dozen biscuits to 4 ½-pounds. Stefano and his crew sailed on Tuesday and enjoyed a bail job, limiting out on striped bass within 30 minutes and then loaded the box with their limit of sea bass. The wind picked up Wednesday morning forcing Doug's group to stay close to home. The group enjoyed putting together a decent catch of fluke and sea bass. The same plan was used during the afternoon with Eric and his group of younger anglers, who kept the rods bent with scup and sea bass. Mike Schneider and the guys came out for a short trip on Thursday and stuck with bottom fishing, loading up with a handsome catch of sea bass in the 4-pound range. A first-timer trip with Sunny Yau and 7 of his friends put a few striped bass in the boat, releasing a bunch of overs and shorts, before switching over to bottom fishing where the crew loaded up the box with fish in the 3 to 5-pound range.

August 24, 2020 - 11:10:55

Captain Jill and Capt. Steve of November Rain Charters reports Peter and Jane came out and fished both Monday and Tuesday. The duo enjoyed great bottom fishing with multiple sea bass in the 4 to 5-pound range being released after their easy limits. David and his family also took a ride early in the week sticking with bottom fishing with dad, mom and the kids managing an impressive catch. AJ and crew came out mid-week and found the striped bass being a little picky, so it was off to Jurassic Park where the jumbo sea bass came aboard in multiple numbers. The hot streak continued with Bob Wong and his gang aboard for their annual trip. Despite the torrential rain, all 7 guys stayed at the rail and loaded the boat with their limit of sea bass. They're already in the calendar for 2021 and will be back again later this fall for blackfish. Chris and Doreen had a blast on Thursday as the duo kept the rods bent all day. After boxing their sea bass limit and releasing numerous others, they topped off their catch with a handful of fluke. The November Rain spent a few days offshore at the end of week and though there wasn’t a ton off action, they did hook and release a white shark, estimated at 125-pounds. On the steam towards home, a quick stop on the south side produced a few sea bass and red hake for the crew to bring home for one tasty dinner. Great inshore bite these days with sea bass and fluke. With that said, there still some availability in September and October, which is a great time for the last shot at monster fluke, with bass and of course, bottom fishing. August 17, 2020 - 10:22:51

Captain Jill and Capt. Steve of November Rain Charters started the week off celebrating Capt. Jill’s mom's birthday and took her out for a little bottom fishing. They only needed a couple of fish for the BBQ, but had fun playing catch and release for a few hours with mom.  Monday morning saw Damian and crew put seven slot size stripers in the box, releasing several others Robert and gang came out later that day and enjoyed great action loading the box with sea bass. James Koeppel spent Tuesday putting five striped bass in the box, topped off with jumbo sea bass in the afternoon. Jennifer and her family spent Wednesday morning loading the box with a limit of sea bass to 4.5-pounds. First-timer Rosemary and gang also fished this week and the guys limited out on sea bass to 5-pounds, and then added a few fluke to 5-pounds to the box. Craig and the boys came out late in the week and, hit a grand slam with sea bass to 5-pounds, some quality fluke, a few jumbo scup, and a few slot size stripers. The weekend was a blowout. Capt. Steve grew up spending much of his time with his grandfather, Robert (Bob) Lake, who eventually became his best friend. Bob was an avid fisherman himself and would tell both Capt. Steve and Capt. Jill many a story about his days in Montauk fishing on the Viking and his nights at Salivar’s. Steve’s introduction to fishing came at a young age, and once he started, he never stopped. Although Bob continued fishing for many years thereafter, he gradually moved away from fishing and began rod building, a “hobby” that he continued for years. To this day, Capt. Steve and Capt. Jill have an entire collection of beautifully built rods aboard the November Rain, from light to heavy tackle, most with Bob’s signature on them. Steve and Jill met over 20 years ago and they’ve been fishing together for almost as long, spending much of that time in Montauk. Their fishing adventures began when they started trailering their 22’ Mako to Montauk, first for a weekend, then for a week and then for a few weeks. Their next boat, a 28 foot BHM, would be docked in Montauk for half the season and then eventually, a full season. In 2003, they took the leap into the charter business and started November Rain Charters. Later on in 2004 they purchased the current November Rain, a 35 foot Young Brothers. Capt. Steve and Capt. Jill don’t claim to be more knowledgeable than other captains, nor will they tell you that they’ll catch more fish than any other boat. What they will tell you, however, is that if you fish with them, they will try their absolute best to make sure you have a great day and go home with a great catch.
