HAPPY NEW YEAR!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
With lots of bait on the cod grounds, the short-term outlook should be good; so long as Mother Nature cooperates, that is! (Photo courtesy of the Black Hawk)
With the arrival of the New Year, be sure that you’ve renewed your fishing licenses. Some states validate a license for 365 days from the date of purchase, while others expires annually on the 1st of the year, so make sure you know which is which in your chosen waters! And if you’re looking to put that license to good use this week, you have a few options from which to choose. Freshwater fishing for trout remains a great bet right now with fish being caught from the Cape through Rhode Island and on down into Connecticut. If you’re looking for holdover stripers, they are being reported from Boston to the Housy with numbers being caught by day and size after dark. Cod fishing was a bit slower this past week out around Block Island as the boats had to bounce around to find a good bite, but when they did it made up for lost time in short order.
