COD, TROUT AND SHOWS ON THIS WEEK’S MENU
Stefanos Makris decked this 30-plus pound cod aboard the Point Lookout based Super Spray on Saturday.

Lots of mild weather in the forecast for the week ahead which bodes well for the first round of trout stockings by DEC, and for anyone hoping for a shot at cod. Saturday’s flat calm ocean allowed the Super Hawk to run to offshore east end wrecks where they found a bunch of nice cod, including a 30-plus pounder. The Laura Lee Express and the Capt. Al also took advantage of the calm seas to put their fares onto fish Saturday. Sunday was another story as wind and rain kept everyone at the dock.

Don’t forget flounder and blackfish seasons open on April 1 and make sure your Marine Registry is up to date. It needs to be renewed annually.

This weekend features the Saltwater Expo in Edison, NJ. It runs from Friday through Sunday and is worth the drive. Closer to home, the Fly Fishing Expo holds court here on the Island at the Radisson Hotel in Hauppauge on Saturday. We will be at both shows so be sure to stop by and say hello, and pick up a pair of Star aluminum fishing pliers or dry bag with any new or renewed subscription.
