Double-headers are just as likely right now as singles on the porgy grounds! (Photo courtesy of the Black Hawk.)
From boat and by shore, from Massachusetts to Connecticut and beyond, the summer scup/porgy bite is in full effect right now. Keepers are more common in most places than short fish, and you can expect good bycatch of fluke, black sea bass, kingfish, striped bass and even bluefish on the very same rigs. Whether you prefer squid, clam, worms of a synthetic bait like Fishbites or Gulp, now is the time to head to the salt and get your fill of these scrappy, tasty saltwater “panfish.”
