New England

Posted By Toby Lapinski, September 23, 2019
Bluefish like this one landed by Fisherman subscriber TJ Kopecky have been harassing schools of small bait for the last few weeks.
Fall fishing remains very good in Southern New England for a wide variety of species. There are bass, blues, albies and bonito to be had in the surf and nearshore waters from the Cape to Connecticut. Bottom fishing is about as good as it gets for porgies with plenty of big black sea bass to be had too. Blackfish season is open in Massachusetts and Rhode Island and is producing some very big fish despite many anglers seeking other species. Offshore, the bluefin bite is holding steady with plenty of recreational-class fish to be had all around Cape Cod as well as south of Block Island.
