This 102-inch, 650-pound giant bluefin was landed aboard Fish Chatham Charters before the commercial closure this week. They had an estimated 120-inch fish a few days later that had to be released.
The bluefish made an appearance off Gooseberry Island for a few hours then sounded as they headed west toward Sakonnet Point. Blues have been scarce of late except for some pods in upper Mt Hope Bay that have been working schools of pogies. Bluefin tuna fishing, on the other hand, is just about as good as it gets right now! They are being landed at Stellwagen, in Cape Cod Bay, off P-Town, down the backside and on out east of Chatham. All methods are working form run and gun to swimming live baits, but make note that the commercial season has once again closed for the time being. That said, if you can weed through the giants there are plenty of legal recreational fish to be had!
