FISHING LOGS: New Jersey & Delaware Bay
Northern New Jersey & Hudson River

Daniel Montego got into the epic surf bite along the Raritan Bayshore last week sticking this good fish on a Sebile stick shad.

Fishing along the northern coast got off to a slow start. However an 80-degree plus preview of things to come jumpstarted some good fishing along the south side of Raritan Bay. Stripers penned the bunker up on the flats and boat fishermen and surfcasters alike casting swimming plugs, shads and poppers were able get into a solid mix of shorts and keepers on Thursday and Friday. Saturday saw the fishing slow up a bit, and then came the weather problems on Sunday. Hopefully the fishing will rebound quickly once things settle down. Bottom fishing also showed some signs of life, as well. Boats sailing out of Belmar found decent fishing early in the week with tog and cod supplying the fishing. In this case the fishing got slower as the week progressed and colder water moved in along the coast. Here too it’s a wait and see, as to when the sinker bouncing rebounds after the blow. Still no bluefish reported, while winter flounder fishing remained in limbo.
