Fairfield Fishing Tackle

June 1, 2020:
"The Passaic River is in the best shape of the year so far," cited Cheryl at Fairfield Fishing Tackle. Northern pike, smallies and catfish are supplying the bulk of the fishing in the non-tidal river, while short stripers are plentiful in the tidal river and giving light tackle fishermen some good action. The store continues to get reports of decent trout fishing in the Ramapo, Rockaway, Pequest and Flat Brook. Local lakes are seeing post spawn crappie and spawning bass which are giving anglers some early and late day fishing.

Another place we got word of some better conditions and fishing was over at Fairfield Fishing Tackle. Joe told us the Passaic River has really turned on now that water levels are better with northerns, smallies, catfish and carp supplying the fishing. The shop got good reports on the walleye and bass fishing in Lake Hopatcong, and some good trout fishing in the Rockaway and Ramapo rivers. Local small ponds and lakes are also seeing some decent catch and release bass fishing.

"The Passaic River was in some of the best shape it has been in so far this spring," said Cheryl at Fairfield Fishing Tackle. Anglers were into some pike, smallies and catfish with a few nice size carp mixed in. Local lakes and ponds are giving up bass, pickerel and crappies, while bigger lakes like Hopatcong and the Newark Watershed Reservoirs are serving up a mix of fish. Trout fishing has also been good with the Rockaway and Ramapo garnering the best reports this past week.

Over at Fairfield Fishing Tackle Joe said by mid-week the Passaic River had become fishable and anglers were scoring some pike, bass and catfish. Trout streams, while still running high from the rains are still giving up some nice trout with the Rockaway, Ramapo, Pequest and Flat Brook topping the list for their customers. The trout are spread out so you have to move away from stocking points to find the fish. Bass action in most local lakes and ponds was decent, he added.

"Thursday's rains put some extra water in the Passaic River," said Cheryl at Fairfield Fishing Tackle. Likewise most trout streams were running well above normal as of the weekend she said. Prior to the rains the Passaic River was giving up some northerns and carp, and trout fishing was decent in most waters that were open. The opening of state parks on Saturday put several more stocked waters on the trout fishermen's hit list, she said.
