Nathan at Red Top in Buzzards Bay said there were two days of glory in the Canal and then it went quiet, like pin-drop quiet. He said most of the bait has left the Ditch and the schools of mackerel that are left have no fish on them. Night guys are still pulling an occasional fish, but the fact is, it's very quiet. Reports from Buzzards Bay have been quiet this week as well and further out on the Cape, most of the bass are 20 to 30 inches.

Hayden from Red Top in Buzzards Bay said the bass fishing in the Canal has finally picked up for the night crew, particularly those fishing the west end. Jiggers are doing most of the damage, but other methods are working as well. Guys fishing the surf in Buzzards Bay and Falmouth have been scoring some nice fish on eels this week. There's been no shortage of bait with bunker in Buzzards Bay, herring still hanging at the run and shots of mackerel in the east end—when that first big wave comes in, it could be epic.

Heading across to the Canal Region the guys at Red Top Sporting Goods in Buzzards Bay were very enthusiastic about the early returns coming back from local spots. They said there had only been a few bass taken from the Canal so far but the estuaries around the west end were filling up fast with lots of schoolies and some slot keepers too up to the 35-inch maximum. The Weweantic and Agawam Rivers were giving up good catches this week with a mix of sizes taking topwaters and soft plastics. Buttermilk Bay was also seeing an influx of stripers this week. The biggest surprise was the numbers of keepers being taken for this time of year. It should only get better from here on out.

It's not a summer breaking tide bite, but there are fish to be had in the Canal according to Red Top Sporting Goods in Buzzards Bay. Bass are taking topwater plugs with fish to maybe 30 inches being caught. The slack tides have been good for tog with some keepers landed, too.
