"Still some mechanical work being done, but our mates are hopping on other boats and enjoying some good fishing," shared Capt. Alan on Mushin Sportfishing late Sunday afternoon. He directs all to the Hudson Canyon where there's been solid yellowfin and bigeye bites occurring on the troll, with the former from 60 to 80 pounds, with the latter in the 200-plus pound class. He's pumped that the Hudson's after dark chunk bite is now underway, with pieces of butterfish leading to inhalations of sardines and also live squid.

With Mushin in for maintenance, the crew has been hopping aboard other boats and chasing bluefin and mahi. Cat. Alan says the Chicken Canyon is a mahi inferno, and the fish, to 12 pounds, are glomming chunks and whacking small jigs around the mid-range pots. The bluefin jigging action has been spotty. The few, up to 100 pounds, that came in fell for the Old Man's Tackle Box 120 gram, "The Creature" jig.

Aboard Mushin Sportfishing, it was a blow by the mid-range areas for box-bulging shots at mahi around the Hudson's pots for Church, Bryan and Shelly, Mark O., Jimmy and Tommy. Dropping baits to the 450- to 550-foot reach produced golden tilefish, then it was a 6-knot speed with blackpurple Sterling Tackle Crazy 6 Wide Tracker Bars and the standard Wide Trackers for a trio of yellowfin to 60 pounds. On the way in, a stop to jig some favorite mid-range spots resulted in a two for six success at bluefin to 100 pounds that waxed the pinkwhite 120-gram Nomad Streaker and Madd Mantis metals.
