It was a busman's holiday for Capt. "Cool Ray" Lopez of Miss Liane Sportfishing who along with Steve, owner of Jingles Bait & Tackle in Beach Haven, hopped aboard Capt. Jimmy's Z.'s Reel Determined and enjoyed an overnight southern canyon excursion that resulted in a pair of whole mackerel-loving 56- and 57-inch swordfish on the 200-foot nighttime drop, and wahoo to 35 pounds and 10 mahi to 17 pounds on the 7-knot naked ballyoo troll the next morning.

The Kieran Chenoweth Haffner family was aboard Miss Liane Sportfishing for a 12-hour trip, and Capt. Cool Ray had them into a mess of jumbo false albacore in the 15-plus pound range that tore into the daisy chains, ballyhoo and spreader bars. A keeper bluefin was boxed. "A lot of fun, a lot of action, and some sore arms for sure," quipped the captain.

Capt. Cool Ray Lopez aboard Miss Liane Sportfishing had the Dave Holderfield group in from Pennsylvania, and it was a wild mid-range trolling time with bodacious bonito and false albacore. A bluefin was hooked and fought, but lost close to the boat. Mike Senker was up from Fernando Beach, FL and, with brother Mark from Hillsborough, cousin John Senker from Waretown, and friend Adam, also from Fernando Beach, enjoyed a crazy day with box-worthy mahi and fat alberts to 15 pounds. A 6.5-knot speed with cedar plugs, 19-inch purple Sterling Wide Tracker Bars, and feather chains ws the modus operandi.

Capt. "Cool Ray" Lopez from Miss Liane Sportfishing was dockside early Sunday afternoon after a 30 Fathom Line trip produced a 100-pound bluefin that walloped a bluepink jig. He was then heading north with Mrs. Lopez to drop the visually vivacious and brain power Miss Liane at the airport to depart for her new academic and angling adventures at the University of Miami. After the teary good-byes, he's back to bluefin, white marlin and mahi pursuits.
