Paul over at Blackbeard's B&T in Eastham joked that he thinks they have more great whites than stripers right now. He did say that there have been decent numbers of school bass running the beaches between Coast Guard and Race Point, but finding a keeper requires perseverance and luck. Even the boat anglers are having trouble putting fish over 30 inches on the deck. There have been no bluefish around for quite a while now too.

Paul from Blackbeard's B&T in Eastham was closing up shop when I called and he said that there are still big numbers of small bass running the beaches on both sides of the Cape. Race Point gave up a few keepers this week, and the schoolies are running from there clear down to Nauset. On the bay side, Sesuit Harbor is loaded with small bass. The beaches from Dennis down to Sandwich are teeming with shorts and small keepers as well. "This could go on until Thanksgiving if we don't have too many major storms," said Paul. There have been no bluefish reports since last Sunday when one of Paul's buddies nailed a few giant blues off Nauset Beach. The shop is officially closed until March, Paul wanted wish all of his customers Happy Holidays, a Happy New Year and a safe and swift winter. See you in the spring!

Paul from Blackbeard's B&T in Eastham said the schoolie bite continues on the Outer Cape. It seems like there are small bass everywhere you look from Race Point on down to Nauset—finding a keeper is not an easy task however. This same class of 14- to 25-inch fish have been clogging the harbors on the bay side too, both Wellfleet Harbor and Sesuit had them this week. A few anglers have reported getting into occasional shots of big blues as well. The albies in Nantucket Sound seem like they are not ready to leave yet, Red River Beach had a big crush of albies this week and there were reports of action off several other Sound beaches too. Paul says he's just about ready to pack it in for the season and plans to close the doors on October 21st—swing by before he does.

  • October 9, 2017 Open or Close

Paul from Blackbeard's B&T in Eastham said it's been mostly small bass in the 22- to 26-inch class this week from many locations. The Race had them and they were found many places along the backside. Duck Harbor and Pamet also had some bass in this class. Some big blues hit the beach at Race Point one day this week, but they haven't been back since. The shop will be closing for the season October 21st, so make sure to stop by for your last-minute needs before then.
