If you are looking for bass action the upper Hudson in the Kingston area is seeing some good action on crankbaits and plastics, cited Nick over at Bullet Hole Annex. He also mentioned the good fishing in the lower waters of the Passaic River with smallies, largemouth, catfish and carp serving up the action in the non-tidal river, and some small stripers being caught on jig-swimbait combinations from the tidal river. Lake Hopatcong and Greenwood continue to see some good early morning bass action as well.

    As July comes about warmer water temps put a lot of fishing in the mid summer mode, cited Nick over at Bullet Hole Annex. Most of the better bass action in Greenwood, Hopatcong, Pompton and other lakes has shifted to an early day bite on topwater baits and plastics. Summer water levels in the Passaic River are serving up smallies, largemouth, northerns, catfish and carp, especially in the well oxygenated waters below the dams and rapids. Joe Casale, who works at the store, recently took first place in the New Jersey Bass Federation Tournament with a two day total of 38.68 pounds, along with 5-pound plus bass on both days for the lunker pools. Joe will now represent New Jersey in the next round of contests.

    A call to Nick at Bullet Hole Annex garnered several reports. The Passaic River is seeing some more stable conditions and giving up a mix of largemouth and smallmouth bass and northerns in the non-tidal river, and catch and release stripers in the tidal river. Pompton Lake has new boat regs with a 10hp limit on boats. Lake Hopatcong and Canisteer Reservoir are still producing walleyes, while the fishing in Greenwood Lake has shifted to largemouth fishing, Nick said.

    Freshwater fishing continues to improve with the warmer weather and water temps, cited Nick over at Bullet Hole Annex. The store is still getting good reports on the walleye fishing in Greenwood Lake, Canisteer Reservoir and Lake Hopatcong. All three are also seeing some decent smallmouth fishing. Largemouth action has been good in Pompton Lake and most of the small ponds and lakes in the area as the bass come off the beds. Small stripers are giving light tackle fishermen some good action on topwater baits and swimbaits in the tidal Passaic, while the upper river is seeing a good catfish bite, some nice pike and fair numbers of smallies.

    Bass in the northern lakes and ponds are coming off the beds thanks to recent jumps in water temps according to Nick over at Bullet Hole Anne. Most of the bass being caught are now in the post spawn areas taking jig-swimbait combos and plastic worms. Walleye fishing remained good in Lake Hopatcong, Greenwood, Canisteer Reservoir and Monksville Reservoir. The Passaic River is fishing well for smallies and pike in its non-tidal section and small stripers in the tide water.
