Tackle World

November 11, 2019:
A call to Rick at Tackle World got us a report of some good trout fishing in between the weather and winds. The Ramapo, Pequest and Musconetcong have been the top streams with anglers taking some nice fall stocked trout mainly on spinners and Powerbait.

Fishing was decent early in the week but took a hit from the mid week rains and ensuing winds on Friday according to Mark over at Tackle World. He said the store got good reports on the trout fishing in the streams; however, the winds on Thursday and Friday put a lot of leaved in the water making fishing difficult over the weekend. Anglers continue to see good numbers of short stripers in the tidal Hackensack and Passaic rivers until the mid week weather and Greenwood Lake continues to serve up some good numbers of walleye. Mark said the store has moved to a new location; it moved from the back of the building where it was to the front side facing the highway, which makes it a lot easier to find.

"Trout fishing was decent this past week when you could find open water," said Mark at Tackle World. The Ramapo in particular served up nice fish off Fairfax Road and around the 287 Bridge and reports were just as good from other northern streams. "Winds and leaves have been a problem," Mark said. Greenwood Lake is on fire with walleye and perch along with some muskies, while Monksville Reservoir is giving up walleyes. The lower tidal Passaic and Hackensack Rivers are providing good light tackle fishing for perch and small stripers.

Trout fishing got top billing over at Tackle World. Mark told me he got good reports from Rockaway and Pequest. He also mentioned walleyes and smallies being caught in Greenwood Lake and walleyes and muskies in Monksville Reservoir. Haldon Reservoirs continued to give up good catches of bass. Bass fishing has been spotty in local waters, while the Passaic River is giving up smallies and northerns.

"The only news on the freshwater scene was this past week trout stocking," said Mark over at Tackle World. Reports coming into the store told of spotty fishing with some places seeing decent catches while there seeing slow fishing. Recent winds have put a lot of leaves in the water this is impacting on the fishing in some places. Fishing on the lakes this past week was quiet with plenty of winds and poor conditions most of the week, Mark said.
